The John Frost Bridge at Arnhem (from my visit in 2013) 72 years ago today, Allied troops set off on what could be one of the boldest missions of World War 2, Operation Market Garden. Developed by Field Marshall Montgomery, the plan was to advance into Nazi occupied Holland and develop a bridgehead over the River Rhine into Germany. There were two parts to the operation: Market (Airborne) Garden (Ground Forces) In what was the largest airborne operation of the war, paratroopers and glider troops had the job of securing bridges at Eindhoven (US 101st Airborne), Nijmegen (US 82nd Airborne) and Arnhem (British 1st Airborne). The ground forces, made up of the British XXX Corp had to advance up a single highway through Holland, linking up with the airborne forces as they went. In honour of the anniversary of Operation Market Garden we look back at some of the movies and TV Shows that tell the story of the Allies ill-fated attempt to end the war by Christmas 1944. The supermarket becomes a parody for real life in what could be Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's most extreme and yet intelligent movie to date. Sausage Party is laugh out loud funny throughout, but with the comedy comes a sort of over head view of the world we live in, as well as all of the swearing drug, alcohol and sex references we've come to expect of a Seth Rogen movie. The movie could be just as controversial as Rogen and Goldberg's The Interview, but where that was a very stupid story that depicted a current, real, live dictator and his (fictional) assassination, Sausage party takes the South Park approach...everyone and everything is fair game! This isn't going to be a long and detailed breakdown of the Ultimate Edition, however there are some spoilers ahead. I'm not going to go through every subtle difference in intricate detail. But I am going to explain why I think the Ultimate Edition is worth a watch. First of all, if you haven't seen Batman v Superman, don't bother with the theatrical cut. Go straight to the Ultimate Edition, it's by far the better version and not just because it's longer. The Ultimate Edition is what Zack Snyder wanted us to see, but it was cut for a lower age certificate and a shorter run time. Now I'm not sure that the changes are enough to make those who passionately hate the movie change their minds. But those who don't like the theatrical cut may be impressed by the changes, of which there are many. Hello Games has released their groundbreaking new game; No Man's Sky. Available on PS4 and PC, it gives players the opportunity to explore a galaxy of 18 quintillion planets (yes that's a real number), with the ultimate goal of reaching the centre of the galaxy. Along the way they will have to create, mine and trade resources to power and advance their equipment and their ship. The game is built on four pillars: Exploration Trading Combat Survival The developers have done a good job of capturing the feel of both Star Trek and Star Wars whilst also taking inspiration from Frank Herbert's Dune and science fiction authors Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and Robert Heinlein. Every planet in the galaxy is explorable. When players log in for the first time they will find themselves on a random planet, where they will have to complete certain tasks before they can leave. It seems that Pixar are looking to reclaim their title as the definitive name in 3D animation movies and with Finding Dory they might just do it. Thirteen years after Finding Nemo took the box office by storm and became one of Pixar's best loved movies, we return to the ocean with Finding Dory. Set a year after the first movie, Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) is living with Marlin (Albert Brooks) and Nemo (Hayden Rolence), in fact Marlin has essentially adopted her. Dory is still struggling with her memory but has random flashes of her past. When she remembers something about her parents the three of them set off on another fun filled journey across the ocean to find out where Dory came from.
