Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre | Average Guy Movie Review

When a dangerous weapon is stolen by gangsters, the British Government hire a team of private contractors - led by Nathan Jasmine (Cary Elwes) and Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) - to acquire it. Their plan; get close to the broker responsible for organising the sale of the weapon (Hugh Grant), using a Hollywood actor (Josh Hartnett) with whom the broker has an obsession. I'm starting to think Guy Ritchie wasn't too happy about not getting to make a sequel to The Man from U.N.C.L.E.  (I know I wasn't). That's the feeling I get when watching Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre  (what a title!). It's like he decided that instead he would do his own take on James Bond and Mission: Impossible . Unfortunately, after a fun opening involving the recruitment of Elwes and Statham, it becomes inescapably clear that the movie suffers from a lack of Ritchie's signature flair - not to mention pretty much everything that made The Man from U.N.C.L.E. so cool. Making Operation For

Wrath of Man | Average Guy Movie Review

A seemingly normal guy joins an armoured truck firm in Los Angeles. But it quickly becomes apparent that 'H' (Jason Statham) is not quite who he says he is. The question is; who is he really, and what is he really up to? A remake of the 2004 French movie Cash Truck  ( Le Convoyeur ), Wrath of Man  is a testosterone-fuelled, albeit dreary tale of a man out for revenge. One that certainly highlights the potential dangers of a career driving armoured trucks. The dreary stylings may be a strange choice for an action movie, but it is actually rather fitting, given that by its very nature, vengeance is a grim business. It doesn't take long for the bullets to start flying in some fairly tense action scenes, as every armed robber in Los Angeles seems to be interested in what these armoured trucks are carrying. Director Guy Ritchie brings a gritty blend of Hollywood action movie tropes as H - with some occasional help from his colleagues - takes on any wannabe robbers. Expect lots o

The Gentlemen | Average Guy Movie Review

Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) has built a multi-million pound cannabis empire, and used it to ingratiate his way into British high society. But with legalisation on the horizon, Mickey's looking to sell up and retire, spend some time with the wife. The problem is word of Mickey's plans have got out, and the vultures are circling. Can the gentleman drug dealer keep his empire intact long enough to find a buyer? Guy Ritchie returns to the genre that made him with a movie that puts a hilarious - and not entirely unbelievable - spin on the British upper class. Told mostly through flashback, and from the point of view of Fletcher, a sleazy private investigator played by Hugh Grant in a show stealing performance. Very different from the type of character we're used to seeing Grant play, Fletcher is by far the best thing about The Gentlemen. Something of an unreliable narrator - he is prone to flashes of "artistic license" - his attempts to liven up t

Deadpool 2 | Average Guy Movie Review

The Merc with the Mouth is back and this time...he's got a Celine Dion song. When Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) tries to help a troubled young mutant named Russell (Julian Dennison), he's set on a collision course with Thanos, I mean Cable (Josh Brolin) - a time travelling cyborg looking to change the future. In order to protect Russell, Wade will need to assemble the X-Force, a team of colourful individuals, and one guy with a moustache. When I first heard that Tim Miller had left the project due to "creative differences" with Ryan Reynolds, I was more than a bit concerned that a promising new franchise was going the way of Universal's Dark Universe! Said concern started to fade with the announcement that David Leitch - who's work I'm a big fan of - had been hired to replace Miller. And I'm pleased to say he didn't disappoint, having used his considerable experience to create some phenomenal action sequences that fit perfectly with the Deadp

Atomic Blonde Red Band Trailer

Check out the Red Band Trailer below... From Director David Leitch, half of the directing team behind John Wick comes cold war, action-thriller...Atomic Blonde. Charlize Theron stars as Lorraine Broughton, a spy for MI6 tasked with investigating the death of an agent and retrieving a list of double agents. Starring alongside Theron are James McAvoy, Sofia Boutella, John Goodman, Toby Jones and Eddie Marsan. Broughton looks to be a combination of James Bond, Jason Bourne and Evelyn Salt. But given the director's previous work I'd say she's more like John Wick's sister. From the looks of the trailer, it appears Theron has had similar training as Keanu Reeves had, and she looks very capable. I really hope this is the movie that 'Salt' should have been!  Let us know what you think of the trailer by leaving a comment or find us on Facebook and Twitter.

Concussion: Average Guy Movie Review

Will Smith plays Doctor Bennet Omalu, a forensic pathologist who discovered a recurring form of dementia in American Football players caused by repeated blows to the head. Doctor Omalu calls this condition Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), I don't pretend to understand it but basically the repeated blows to the head cause large accumulations of tau protein in the brain which affects mood, emotions and executive functions. When attempting to present his findings, Doctor Omalu was met with considerable pressure at the hands of the NFL who went to great lengths to avoid or dispute his work. The movie begins with Doctor Omalu's initial discovery in 2002. While working as a forensic pathologist for the Allegheny County Coroners Office in Pennsylvania he performed an autopsy on a former player for the Pittsburgh Steelers, discovering severe brain damage. Over the next few years Doctor Omalu continued to study CTE in order to create awareness, we see the effect this
