Charged: The Eduardo Garcia Story | Average Guy Documentary Review | Movierob's Genre Grandeur

For this month's Genre Grandeur on Documentary films, I am reviewing Charged: The Eduardo Garcia Story. Click here  to check out the other reviews over on Movierob's site. Whilst out hunting in the back country of Montana, Eduardo Garcia came across what looked like an old metal drum. Inside was a dead animal, but when Garcia tried to touch it with his knife, he was hit with 2400 volts of electricity. Somehow, he survived, and managed to walk to get help. But he suffered several major injuries, that required multiple surgeries and resulted in the loss of his left hand. This is the story of his recovery. If you ever want to see an example of the strength of the human spirit, Charged is a good place to start. It is impossible to not be moved by Eduardo Garcia's story, and his unwavering positivity in the face of such life changing injuries. Especially when you find out that even after the accident, life wasn't done crapping on this guy. Because of h

Spy Game | Average Guy Movie Review | Movierob's Genre Grandeur

For this month's Genre Grandeur on Spy/Espionage movies I have chosen Spy Game. Directed by Tony Scott and starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt, this is a gritty, more realistic spy movie. It's the polar opposite of a James Bond movie. There's no glamour, no gadgets and the type of locations that would make Jason Bourne think twice!  It's 1991, the US and China are working on a trade deal and CIA Agent Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt) has just been caught trying to break someone out of a Chinese Prison. The US Government has just 24 hours to claim him before he is executed. In order to get a handle on the situation, CIA executives bring in Nathan Muir (Robert Redford), Bishop's former boss and mentor to provide deep background on him. But Muir soon realises that the executives are looking for a pretext to justify leaving Bishop to the Chinese. Now he must he call in every asset he has and every favour he's owed in order to save Bishop's life. After a ten

Back To The Future | Moustache Feature | Movierob's Genre Grandeur

This month on Movierob's Genre Grandeur the topic is our favourite 80's fantasy movies. Well when I heard this, the choice was obvious...Back To The Future! The story of Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), a teenager who after accidentally being transported 30 years into the past inadvertently prevents his own parents from meeting. Now with his mother infatuated with him instead of his father and is own existence in jeopardy, he has just one week to set things straight and get back to the future. And the adventure didn't stop there, Back To The Future spawned two sequels, an animated TV show, rides at Universal Studios theme parks in California, Florida and Osaka and a multitude of video games.  Click here to check out all the other reviews in this month's Genre Grandeur. Back To The Future (BTTF) is an important movie for me. Not only is it the first movie I remember watching as a kid, I was born in 1985, two weeks after that fateful weekend in October in which t

Paul | Average Guy Movie Review | Movierob's Genre Grandeur

This month I was asked to choose the genre for Movierob's Genre Grandeur. Having studied the list of genres that have gone before, I realised there was one that hadn't been chosen...road trip movies. There are so many great road trip movies; Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Smokey and the Bandit, Thelma and Louise, Midnight Run, Due Date, Fanboys, The Hitman's Bodyguard, Dumb and Dumber, and even one called Road Trip.  Most of them involve crazy adventures, insane stunts, a lot of bickering and laughing and many modes of transport. Although I don't think any of them ever found an alien, which is exactly what happens in the movie I've chosen to review; "Paul".  After visiting Comic Con, Graeme (Simon Pegg) and Clive (Nick Frost) travel across the US visiting famous UFO related locations. Along the way they pick up Paul, an alien on the run from the government, who they have to help get home before the "Big Guy" catches up with them.

A Million Ways To Die In The West | Average Guy Movie Review | Movierob's Genre Grandeur

For Movierob 's Genre Grandeur on Western Crossovers, I am looking at Seth MacFarlane's guide to surviving the old west for all those who aren't Clint Eastwood, A Million Ways To Die In The West. It follows Albert Stark (MacFarlane), a sheep herder on the frontier who seems to be the only person that sees the west for what it is; a dangerous, disease infested, unforgiving shit hole. "Hell, this was Miss America in 1880... ..."Holy Shit!"  After his girlfriend dumps him, Albert prepares to leave his hometown of Old Stump for San Francisco. But his plans are interrupted by the arrival of Anna (Charlize Theron), who shows him how to enjoy life. Unfortunately for Albert, Anna is married to Clinch Leatherwood (Liam Neeson), one of the most dangerous outlaws in the territory and he's none too happy about Albert spending time with his wife! The story for A Million Ways To Die In The West began as a joke between MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin and Welles
