A former revolutionary, who has spent the last 16 years vegetating in hiding, is forced to get off his couch in order to find his missing daughter, while also avoiding the government forces that are hunting them both. Following his very separate desires to adapt Thomas Pynchon's Vineland , and to make an action movie, Paul Thomas Anderson has somehow combined the two, and in the process created something quite brilliant. One Battle After Another  is, for the most part, exactly what the title suggests; with many of the movie's main characters battling their way through a series of obstacles and challenges. And yet it is so much more. The movie has a lot to say about immigration policy in present day USA, and battling oppression. But at its heart it is the story of two peoples' fight for survival, and a father's desperate attempts - no matter how comical - to find his daughter. Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), the Heavyweight Champion of the World faces the fight of his life when his father's former rival steps out of the shadows. Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), seeing an opportunity to regain some of the glory he lost in his fight with Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), pits his son Viktor (Florian Munteanu) against the newly minted champ. But with more than just the title on the line, will history repeat itself? If Creed is Rocky, then Creed II is a blend of the Rocky sequels, specifically II, III and IV. Steven Caple Jr. does a good job taking over from Ryan Coogler, but Creed II is a typical sequel; bigger, more grandiose, but packing less punch (hah, boxing pun). However some great performances do a lot to make this an entertaining watch. All of the returning  cast are on top form, including Dolph Lundgren, whose performance is a lot more layered than in Rocky IV.
