The Greatest Beer Run Ever | Average Guy Movie Review

In 1967 the United States is heavily embroiled in the Vietnam war, and John 'Chickie' Donohue (Zac Efron) gets an idea to show his buddies from the neighbourhood serving in Vietnam that the folks back home support them. He's going to bring them beer. But he soon learns that smuggling himself into the country will prove to be the easy part. The Greatest Beer Run Ever  represents a very different approach to doing a war movie, in much the same way that a beer run is a rather odd way to see an actual war. Peter Farrelly , the creator of Loudermilk  and director of such comedy classics as Dumb & Dumber  and Me, Myself and Irene  is not exactly the first guy you think of to direct a war movie, but as soon as you learn what this movie is about - or at least read the title - it all starts to make sense. The other thing that strikes you about The Greatest Beer Run Ever  is that it's based on a true story. John 'Chickie' Donohue did indeed travel all over south Vietn

Thor: Love & Thunder | Average Guy Movie Review

After a troubling few years Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) is on a journey of discovery. Or should that be re-discovery? Oh well. After spending some time fighting with the Guardians of the Galaxy, a distress signal sends Thor and Korg (Taika Waititi) - as well as a couple of noisy new pals - off in search of a being known as the God Butcher (Christian Bale). It's a journey that will bring him back to New Asgard, and will re-acquaint him with an old friend... or two. Thor: Love & Thunder is a bigger, brighter and more colourful affair than what has gone before it. Something akin to a 1980's action/sci-fi adventure, with a soundtrack to match. Taika Waititi doubles down on all the craziness and heart that made Ragnarok  such a success, only this time he doesn't quite get the balance right. It's not that Love & Thunder  isn't funny. Quite the opposite, in fact. Korg's narration being a perfect example, including his habit of forgetting a certain scientist

The Nice Guys: Average Guy Movie Review

The King of buddy comedies, Shane Black, is back. His latest movie, The Nice Guys follows Private Investigator Holland March (Ryan Gosling) and Enforcer Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) in their attempts to find a missing girl called Amelia (Margaret Qualley), who's somehow linked to the death of porn star Misty Mountains (Murielle Telio). As with the other buddy comedies written by Black like Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the movie is reliant on the relationship between the two leads and The Nice Guys doesn't disappoint! Crowe and Gosling work very well together, not only are they believable in the portrayal of their respective characters, their antics are also highly amusing. If you didn't know better you'd think Crowe was reprising his role of Bud White from L.A. Confidential. Oddly enough, this is the first time Crowe and Basinger have worked together since L.A. Confidential. Gosling's character shares traits with characters from Black's past p

The Nice Guys

In 2005 Shane Black released his directorial debut Kiss Kiss Bang Bang; the story of a thief (Robert Downey Jnr), a Private Detective (Val Kilmer) and a failed actress (Michelle Monaghan) caught up in a murder conspiracy in modern day Hollywood. Despite doing well at Cannes it got a limited release and just made back its budget at the box office. Today, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a cult classic but it's unlikely we'll ever see Harry, Gay Perry and Harmony get a sequel. But we may get something close to it. This June sees the release of Shane Black's The Nice Guys starring Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger. Set in 1970's Los Angeles; Private Investigator Holland March (Gosling) and Enforcer Jackson Healey (Crowe) are hired to find Basinger's missing daughter Amelia (Margaret Qualley) while at the same time investigating the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. During the course of their investigation they stumble into a criminal conspiracy wh
