Sneakers | Average Guy Movie Review

Martin Bishop (Robert Redford) leads a group of specialists - including a former CIA officer (Sidney Poitier), a conspiracy theorist/electronics technician (Dan Aykroyd), a young genius (River Phoenix) and a blind phone phreak/sound expert (David Strathairn) - that test the security of banks and other secure facilities. When the NSA hires them to acquire a new advanced code-breaking device, they find themselves caught up in a major conspiracy. Their only way out is to find the person who really wants the device, and prevent them from using it. Sneakers may feel a little dated (OK very dated), but that thankfully hasn't affected it's entertainment value. This is certainly the first movie I've heard of where profanity was actually added to the script in order to achieve a higher age rating. Something that was done to prevent audiences thinking this was a movie for kids. Even today it's still a lot of fun, thanks mostly to some quirky casting. These guys all have

Robert Redford To Retire

After a career that has spanned six decades and includes roles in such classics as  All The President's Men,  A Bridge Too Far, Sneakers and even Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier,  Robert Redford has announced that his latest movie will be his last as an actor. The Hollywood veteran is set to play Forrest Tucker, a real-life career criminal who at the age of 70 pulled off a daring escape from San Quentin prison followed by a string of robberies that confounded the police and enchanted the public. In an interview, Redford told Entertainment Weekly:  Never say never, but I pretty well concluded that this would be it for me in terms of acting, and [I'll] move towards retirement after this 'cause I've been doing it since I was 21. I thought, Well that's enough . And why not go out with something that's very upbeat and positive? The director of The Old Man & the Gun, David Lowery (A Ghost Story) recently spoke with Empire Magazine about

Spy Game | Average Guy Movie Review | Movierob's Genre Grandeur

For this month's Genre Grandeur on Spy/Espionage movies I have chosen Spy Game. Directed by Tony Scott and starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt, this is a gritty, more realistic spy movie. It's the polar opposite of a James Bond movie. There's no glamour, no gadgets and the type of locations that would make Jason Bourne think twice!  It's 1991, the US and China are working on a trade deal and CIA Agent Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt) has just been caught trying to break someone out of a Chinese Prison. The US Government has just 24 hours to claim him before he is executed. In order to get a handle on the situation, CIA executives bring in Nathan Muir (Robert Redford), Bishop's former boss and mentor to provide deep background on him. But Muir soon realises that the executives are looking for a pretext to justify leaving Bishop to the Chinese. Now he must he call in every asset he has and every favour he's owed in order to save Bishop's life. After a ten
