Black Adam | Average Guy Movie Review

After 5000 years imprisonment, Teth Adam (Dwayne Johnson), a slave bestowed with the powers of the Egyptian gods is awoken to find his home country of Kahndaq overrun by mercenaries. The ensuing chaos draws the attention of Amanda Waller, who tasks the Justice Society with capturing Teth Adam before his reign of destruction gets out of hand. Watching Black Adam , the first thing that strikes me - and I know I'm late to the party on this - is that it was never going to save the DCEU  (in its current form). The story is weak. Every twist can be spotted a mile off. The characters aren't exactly compelling. Especially the villain! There's a lot of obvious green screen/CGI, all of which has a nasty habit of taking you out of the movie. And it all builds to a rather uninteresting finale that includes a whole lot more bad CGI. The movie's biggest selling point, by far, is seeing Dwayne Johnson playing this dark and brooding, badass comic book role - one that he happens to be r

A Fast Moustache ReWatch | The Fast Saga

The cinemas are open again, which means the new films that we've been waiting a long time to see are finally starting to arrive. One of those is the latest Fast  movie, something I hadn't originally planned to see, but then I figured it's another movie to enjoy on the big screen. Which got me thinking, why not binge the entire franchise before I do. Some of those movies I haven't watched in years. I kinda stole this idea from a journalist with The Guardian; Tim Jonze . He watched all eight of the Fast & Furious movies in 24 hours, and was changed by it. You can find his article here , it makes for a hilarious read. I'm not quite as crazy he is, I did it in about three days.  This all begins - surprisingly enough - where it all started, with The Fast and the Furious . I was in high school when this came out, so obviously I thought it was great; cool cars and lots of fast driving. What's not for a teenager to like? Although, even back then I wasn't cool e

Hobbs and Shaw | Average Guy Movie Review

When a deadly virus goes missing in London, the CIA recruit Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) to retrieve it. But they're not the only ones looking for it, a mysterious organisation has big plans for the virus and have dispatched Brixton Law (Idris Elba) - a cybernetically enhanced superhuman - to find the person who has it and steal it from them. That person is Hattie (Vanessa Kirby), a rogue MI-6 agent who just happens to be Deckard's sister. If these three want to keep the virus out of the wrong hands, they're going to have to learn to work together, that's if they don't kill each other first. When I first heard that a spin-off from Fast and Furious was in the works, my reaction was not positive. I am not a fan of this franchise, I was once but after the first three movies my interest died a very quick death. Then I heard David Leitch was directing - one half of the pair responsible for John Wick and the man behind Atomic Blonde

Skyscraper | Average Guy Movie Review

The Pearl is the largest, most advanced building in the world, and Will Sawyer (Dwayne Johnson) is the security consultant hired to assess the building's safety and security systems. When an attack on the building causes a fire, Will must fight his way in to save his family. But what do the attackers want? And how far will they go to get it? Described as an homage to Die Hard and The Towering Inferno, Skyscraper doesn't really live up to either. Dwayne Johnson is known for ridiculous movies that are a lot of fun, he is the 80's movie guy of the 21st Century after all. Skyscraper is definitely ridiculous, it's just not that much fun. Take Die Hard for example, John McClane finds himself in a very serious situation; he's the wrong guy, in the wrong place, at the wrong time! But it's still hilarious watching him run around a building doing his level best to piss off the terrorists. There's none of that here, and the one or two moments of humour almost

Rampage | Average Guy Movie Review

When three animals - including an albino gorilla named George -  are exposed to a pathogen, their DNA is combined with that of other animals, causing them to mutate into massive animal hybrids. In order to stop them, Primatologist Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson), the man responsible for George's care must team up with Geneticist Dr. Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris) and government agent Harvey Russell (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). But to do so, they'll have to contend with the military's attempts to destroy the creatures and a shady corporation responsible trying to cover up their involvement. Now I know what you are thinking, this movie looks really stupid. And you would be right, it's big, stupid, cheesy, over the top nonsense. But despite all that, it's actually quite fun! A lot of that is down to the big man, no not George, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. If anyone else made this movie it would be relegated to the same category as Sharknado and its many sequel
