Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: Average Guy Movie Review

After three years of waiting, it has finally arrived. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, possibly one of the most talked about, debated movies of recent years. But was it worth the wait? So far the critics have not been positive about this movie, in fact as I write this the rating on Rotten Tomatoes stands at 28%. However, the audience score is currently 72%, quite a difference of opinion! As the title of this post might suggest I'm not a movie critic, I'm just an average guy who loves movies, and yes I loved this movie. There's only one small part I didn't like, I'm not going to reveal it because I'm not in the habit of spoiling movies. I think it might be explained in the upcoming Justice League movies but right now, without context it's weird. I've heard Batman v Superman is too long, there's too much going on, too many characters, you need to see it twice. Dan Murrell of Screen Junkies described it as five movies in one: a sequel to

Prisoners: Average Guy Movie Review

Hugh Jackman stars in this tense thriller based on every parent's worst nightmare. When a child goes missing it's normal for the parents to feel helpless, even useless, naturally they want to do everything possible to bring their children home. In Prisoners, two little girls are kidnapped, and when the only suspect is released due to a lack of evidence, their Fathers take matters into their own hands. If your child was missing, how far would you go to get them back? Hugh Jackman, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis and Maria Bello deliver brilliant performances as the parents of the missing girls as does Jake Gyllenhaal as the Police Detective determined to bring the girls home. The movie is terrifying, but not in a horror movie way, it's terrifying because it could actually happen to you or someone you know. Prisoners was directed by Denis Villeneuve, the man behind Sicario and the upcoming Blade Runner sequel. It moves at a slow pace that keeps you intereste

Bosch Season 2: Average Guy TV Review

First TV review! After a year of waiting I can confirm that Amazon has delivered another great season of Bosch. Drawing from the books; The Last Coyote, Trunk Music and The Drop, Bosch returns to active duty and is assigned to investigate the murder of an adult film producer with mob ties. Even though seasons 1 and 2 are set six months apart it still feels like one continuous story; a sort of window into the life of Harry Bosch. It's very difficult to put the books down and it's the same way with the show, it's not boring at any point. But unfortunately it's very difficult to keep watching after you run out of episodes! The downside of getting all the episodes at once, you are left wanting more and wondering what's next for Harry?

Indiana Jones and the Sequel of Doom

Several years ago Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas had a little reunion. That reunion resulted in the near destruction of one of our best loved movie franchises! Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was nothing short of a tragedy that simply left fans asking...why? Why aliens? Why CGI ants? Why cast the great John Hurt as a babbling nut? Why is Marion back? Why are they getting married? Why, instead of Sean Connery or Short Round do we get Shia LaBeouf? Why even bother? Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull I imagine it happened much like the plot of "The Hangover". Bunch of blokes get together, get wasted, wake up the next day with no memory and while trying to find out what happened discover they made a really bad movie. The only good thing that came of Crystal Skull was the South Park episode about it. Now they're doing it again. It has been announced that Indiana Jones and the Sequel of Doom (not the official ti

London has Fallen: Average Guy Movie Review

Or Fallen 2: Fall Harder if you want to use its Die Hard Name. Gerard Butler returns as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning, protecting President Asher (Aaron Eckhart) during a visit to London for a State Funeral. When terrorists attack all of the attending world leaders Banning and Asher have no choice but to go on the run in order to stay alive. Also returning are Morgan Freeman as now Vice President Alan Trumbull, Angela Bassett as Secret Service Director Lynne Jacobs, Melissa Leo as Secretary of Defense (American spelling) Ruth McMillan, Robert Forster as General Clegg, Sean O'Bryan as NSA Deputy Director Ray Monroe and Radha Mitchell as Leah Banning. The band is back together It's a cliche ridden, one liner fest but it's still an entertaining action movie. I've said it before, but if you watch it expecting an Oscar winner you'll be disappointed, but if you accept it's an action movie that'll make your inner child go bananas you'll enjoy

The Final Civil War Trailer

Apologies for the late response but between work and the arrival of Tom Clancy's The Division I need sleep! Now, before I get started, don't talk to Epic Voice Guy - Jon Bailey - about this trailer. But do check out his YouTube chanel and the video he made in response to the final Civil War trailer because he raises some valid points. So we've got just over a month until Captain America: Civil War is released and we finally get to see the man everyone has been waiting to see...Spider-Man. But before we get into that, what else do we see? It's more of a story trailer, there's definitley a lot of action, but we learn more about what's going on. Thaddeus Ross (William Hurt) is back, as Secretary of State he's now gunning for all of the Avengers rather than just Hulk. Using the Sokovian Accords, the Battle of New York and the infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D. by Hydra to try and exercise control over the Avengers. This will obviously result in dividing

What's Up Moustache?

There's always some interesting information coming out of Hollywood, here's some that caught my eye. First, footage of Keanu Reeves training on a shooting range for John Wick 2. We see him engage multiple targets at varying distances, transitions from his primary weapon to his sidearm and a shotgun, all with speed and precision. A lot of work went in to the first movie and it showed, John Wick was very successful and very popular with movie goers. Now, those working on the sequel are going to have to work really hard considering how high they set the bar with the first movie. Unfortunatley we have to wait until February 2017 to see John Wick 2. Also out in February is Fifty Shades Darker, a watered down porno courtesy of a Twilight fan fiction writer, The Lego Batman Movie, a spin off of The Lego Movie and The Mountain Between Us starring Charlie Hunnam and Margot Robbie. If John Wick 2 lives up to its predecessor I don't think it will have any trouble with i

Bosch Season 2

One of the first shows to be brought to life by Amazon Prime was Bosch. Detective Hieronymus 'Harry' Bosch was created by author Michael Connelly and played by Titus Welliver on the show. IMDb interviewed Welliver this week, using Twitter to allow fans to ask their questions. I submitted the question:  Welliver answered: Bosch served in the Army, in the books he's a Viet Nam veteran and in the show he's a veteran of both the Gulf and Iraq wars. He joined the Los Angeles Police Department after leaving the Army and after making Detective spent several years in Robbery Homicide. Bosch was moved to Hollywood Homicide (a demotion of sorts) after shooting a suspected serial killer in questionable circumstances. Which is where we find him in the first eight books and Season 1 of the show. The first season drew storylines from the books The Concrete Blonde, City of Bones and Echo Park. Bosch is being sued by the widow of the aforementioned serial ki

The Finest Hours: Average Guy Movie Review

In 1952, the SS Pendleton split in half whilst caught in a storm off the Massachusetts coast. The Bow section capsized killing eight men, including the Captain. The Stern section staid afloat with thritythree men aboard. The Coast Guard sent a small boat with a crew of four to rescue the survivors. This story is known as the greatest rescue in the history of the United States Coast Guard. Directed by Craig Gillespie, this is a very impressive movie both in terms of the story and the production. Firstly, what those men faced and what they did for a group of strangers is incredible. The fact that they found the ship in that storm is amazing, even more so because they were able to rescue so many! A lot of work has been put in to making The Finest Hours look as real as possible. If you've seen the trailer, you've seen the part where the Sailor almost goes overboard because the bow of the ship is gone, that standard is maintained throughout. Obviously they've used a lo

The first Ghostbusters Trailer has arrived

This week the first trailer for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot arrived and reactions have been mixed.  Granted this is only the first trailer and the movie's release date isn't until July which leaves plenty of time to release more trailers but it's not a great start. We already know that this movie is a reboot not a sequel yet the trailer begins by reminding us what happened in the first movie. In fact there are several references to the original throughout the trailer. It's a nice tribute to a classic but confusing for those viewing the trailer who know nothing about the movie. For fans of the original it might be annoying to find out it's not a sequel after being led to believe it is. Now the first trailer is supposed to be a teaser! You're meant to see little snippets of the movie which will generate interest in the movie. But this trailer gives away pretty much an entire scene where Melissa McCarthy is possessed by a ghost and attacks Kate
