Hoppers | Average Guy Movie Review

Mabel (Piper Carda), a 19 year-old with a passion for nature, is fighting to save a glade with special meaning for her family. It's under threat from the local mayor (Jon Hamm), and his highway construction plans. This very personal mission leads Mabel to discover technology that allows her to transfer her consciousness into a robotic beaver, Avatar style, and explore the animal kingdom, unlocking unimaginable secrets. But will she be able to use it to save the glade? Pixar 's 30th feature film is yet another hilarious foray into nature, but  in much the same way scientists use camera rigs disguised as animals to observe different species in their natural habitats. Only this time, a human actually gets to explore the animal kingdom by hanging out with the animals, and Hoppers is delightfully self-aware when it comes to the similarities it shares with a certain James Cameron property. One of several amusing pop culture references throughout the film. In many ways it is an even ...

Day Shift | Average Guy Movie Review

To the uninitiated Bud Jablonski (Jamie Foxx) is a mild mannered pool cleaner, keeping the swimming pools of the San Fernando Valley well chlorinated. But the reality is quite different. If these are questions you have pondered then this may be the movie for you. Either that, or you're just a fan of action comedies, because Day Shift  certainly fits that bill. Jamie Foxx sports some very snazzy Hawaiian shirts - as well as some other colourful attire - as h...

Now You See Me 2: Average Guy Movie Review

Back in July 2013, I was on a ferry coming home from a holiday in Europe, the journey would last all night and I was on my own. After boarding I was relieved to find there was a cinema on board, that night's viewing was Now You See Me. I have to admit I was less than excited about this movie but with nothing better to do I thought: why not? As it turned out, Now You See Me was ridiculous, but it was light-hearted, ridiculous fun that I actually quite enjoyed. Skip ahead to present day and Now You See Me 2 has arrived, but has it captured the magic of the first movie? Set a year later, the Horsemen are in hiding and are getting restless. When their next performance goes wrong, the Horsemen find themselves in Macau, where they are forced to work for the mysterious Walter Mabry (Daniel Radcliffe). What does he want and what are his true motives for exposing them? In order to avoid the authorities and expose Mabry, the Horsemen have to pull off one more grand performance. ...
