The Tomorrow War | Average Guy Movie Review

Christmas 2022, soldiers from the future arrive to warn us of a global conflict that threatens the entire human race. In response, the governments of the world initiate a draft and begin sending waves of troops into the future to fight.  If you're thinking this all sounds kind of like  The Terminator , only in reverse, you wouldn't be far wrong. In fact it seems to draw inspiration from several classic franchises, including  Alien . Even with a slightly different take on the whole time travel thing - don't worry, this isn't like  Avengers: Endgame  -  The Tomorrow War  is a pretty standard sci-fi/action movie. As you can imagine it's all  a bit bleak; alien invasion, human extinction - yep, sounds bleak. But the movie does have a fun side - like every time Sam Richardson picks up a weapon. This is an alien invasion/time travel movie, after all, so if we're not having a little fun, what are we doing here?   All of the usual questions and paradoxes apply as our he

21 Bridges | Average Guy Movie Review

After eight cops are found dead in Brooklyn, veteran NYPD detective Andre Davis (Chadwick Boseman) is brought in to investigate. But when the suspects are tracked to Manhattan, Davis proposes a radical plan; close all the bridges and tunnels into Manhattan, trapping the suspects on the island. Now the cops are caught in a race against time to catch the killers and end the bloodshed. '21 Bridges' is a fast-paced and highly kinetic action movie, in which a group of cops literally whizz around Manhattan searching for a pair of cop killers. As Sergeant Nicholas Angel from 'Hot Fuzz' would say: " I wouldn't argue that it wasn't a no-holds-barred, adrenaline fuelled thrill ride. But there is no way you can perpetuate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork." In fact, that's a perfect way to describe the events in this movie. As an action movie it is a lot of fun, dialling up the excitement very early on

Patriots Day: Average Guy Movie Review

In their third collaboration, Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg are once again bringing a real life event to the silver screen. On 15th April 2013 the Tsarnaev brothers detonated two improvised explosive devices at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. This is the story of that day, the joint FBI/Police investigation and the four-day manhunt that followed. Even though you know it's coming, you can feel the tension build as you await the inevitable explosions. From there, slow burn turns to high octane as the cops deal with the aftermath and the manhunt begins.  Mark Wahlberg plays Sgt. Tommy Saunders, an amalgamation of three cops who were either present at the time of the bombing or involved in the subsequent investigation and manhunt. Also involved are Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman) and FBI Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon).   The splicing of real CCTV footage into the movie adds a creepy vibe. That being said, Patriots Day stil

What's Up Moustache?

There's always some interesting information coming out of Hollywood, here's some that caught my eye. First, footage of Keanu Reeves training on a shooting range for John Wick 2. We see him engage multiple targets at varying distances, transitions from his primary weapon to his sidearm and a shotgun, all with speed and precision. A lot of work went in to the first movie and it showed, John Wick was very successful and very popular with movie goers. Now, those working on the sequel are going to have to work really hard considering how high they set the bar with the first movie. Unfortunatley we have to wait until February 2017 to see John Wick 2. Also out in February is Fifty Shades Darker, a watered down porno courtesy of a Twilight fan fiction writer, The Lego Batman Movie, a spin off of The Lego Movie and The Mountain Between Us starring Charlie Hunnam and Margot Robbie. If John Wick 2 lives up to its predecessor I don't think it will have any trouble with i
