The Batman | Average Guy Movie Review

Only in his second year, a young Batman faces one of his first big challenges when a psychopath with a penchant for riddles begins targeting Gotham City's most powerful, leaving messages for the Batman at every crime scene. Through the course of his investigation, the caped crusader will wade through the city's underworld, teaming up with a cop and a cat burglar along the way. When a character is re-imagined as frequently as Batman there's a danger that things might start to get a little repetitive. As filmmakers run out of places to go, these different iterations inevitably begin to blur. Thankfully however, that is not a fate that has befallen Matt Reeves' The Batman . The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes  director has taken a young caped crusader and inserted him into a gripping mystery thriller, set against the backdrop of a grim and desolate Gotham City. There is something very Se7en -esque to this, as the titular vigilante and his cop best friend try to make a diffe

The Magnificent Seven: Average Guy Movie Review

Antoine Fuqua is attempting to make the western popular again with his re-imagining of The Magnificent Seven. I say re-imagining because it's not a direct remake per say, with new characters and a new story built on the original premise, Fuqua has actually tried to bring something new to the screen. Denzel Washington stars as Sam Chisolm, a Warrant Officer hired by Emma Cullen (Haley Bennett) to assemble a group of hired guns to protect the town of Rose Creek. Now new is good, but in this day and age you've got to pull out all the stops to impress your audience.  So far reaction to The Magnificent Seven has been mixed. According to critics the cast have delivered enjoyable performances but it's felt the story brings nothing new to the genre. I've even heard the movie d

The Magnificent Seven: Moustache Trailer Reaction

The classic movie that was a remake is getting a re-imagining. Antoine Fuqua is bringing The Magnificent Seven back to the silver screen with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in the starring roles. Could this be a sign that the western is making a return or are they flogging a dead horse? The trailer is mostly action shots, you get the basic premise; a town is being victimised by industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the townspeople raise what little funds they can to hire gunfighters to protect them. As a widow puts it "I want righteousness...but I'll settle for revenge". What follows are gunfights, explosions and a bad guy being bad.  Denzel being...Denzel and Chris Pratt's funny tough guy are good choices for the lead roles, add to that Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Byung-hun Lee and Peter Sarsgaard and you've got a strong cast.  It looks like The Magnificent Seven will be a fun movie with a mix of action and humour, like classic
