When navy pilot Troy Kelly (Ryan Reynolds) is shot down during a reconnaissance mission in Soviet airspace, he is forced to find his own way out of enemy territory. Luckily for Troy, he finds, or is at least found by the rather capable Nicky (Kenneth Branagh), who not only wants to help, he's a fan. If buddy comedies live and die by their central pairings - which, obviously they do - then Mayday  is one that lives. Much like the characters they play, the teaming of Reynolds with Branagh is an unlikely one. Or at least unexpected. But that's probably why it works so well. While Reynolds plays it fairly safe with a toned down take on his usual fast-talking smart mouth (very much a winning formula), Branagh returns to the accent he used in  Tenet  and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit . After a brief hiatus - mainly to go see Deadpool & Wolverine  - I'm back to rewatching the X-Men  movies. As with Part 1  it's a mixed bag of movies, with some legendary highs, some rather unfortunate lows, and very little in between. For every Logan  there's an Apocalypse , I guess. So... Deadpool & Wolverine . They're bringing the X-Men  and many more Fox  characters into the MCU . It is a movie phenomenon of epic proportions, not only seeing the oddball pair finally team up, but seeing them bring one cinematic universe into another. What will that mean for the MCU ? How many of these beloved characters will they bring over, and will they be played by the same actors? Yes and no, I guess. There are many questions surrounding this monumental cinematic event, and some of the answers may still be a long way off. On the bright side, that means there's plenty of time to revisit every movie in Fox's X-Men  franchise, which is exactly what I've done. Having given up being Deadpool, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a little down on his luck. So when the Time Variance Authority (TVA) come calling with a job offer, the merc with a mouth is all ears.
