X-Men | Moustache ReWatch - Part 2

After a brief hiatus - mainly to go see Deadpool & Wolverine  - I'm back to rewatching the X-Men  movies. As with Part 1  it's a mixed bag of movies, with some legendary highs, some rather unfortunate lows, and very little in between. For every Logan  there's an Apocalypse , I guess. If you missed it, you can find Part 1 of my  X-Men | Moustache ReWatch   here . So Logan survived his little adventure in Japan, only to come face to face with two old friends seeking his help with a coming threat. Cut to a few years later and the world has been ravaged by war, but I don't think that's Logan's fault. Days of Future Past  is certainly one of the more ambitious X-Men  movies, and it pays off. Less of an action movie and more of a thriller, this new adventure puts an interesting new spin on the complicated relationships between all of the mutants, but especially Charles and Erik - all four of them. It might be a little messy, but bringing the two ca...

X-Men | Moustache ReWatch - Part 1

So... Deadpool & Wolverine . They're bringing the X-Men  and many more Fox  characters into the MCU . It is a movie phenomenon of epic proportions, not only seeing the oddball pair finally team up, but seeing them bring one cinematic universe into another. What will that mean for the MCU ? How many of these beloved characters will they bring over, and will they be played by the same actors? Yes and no, I guess. There are many questions surrounding this monumental cinematic event, and some of the answers may still be a long way off. On the bright side, that means there's plenty of time to revisit every movie in Fox's X-Men  franchise, which is exactly what I've done. Way back in the year 2000 Bryan Singer brought the X-Men  to the big screen, and fair to say; it was a bit of a thing. Watching it more than 20 years later, it can feel almost low key, despite the stakes. The humble beginnings of what would become a massive franchise. In that respect it does make a gr...

Moustache Lockdown Streaming Survival Guide Part 1 | Star Trek: Picard

In these unique times, we find ourselves spending a lot more time indoors. So I thought it might be helpful to point out some great movies and TV shows available on streaming that could help break the boredom. In part 1 I'm looking at Star Trek: Picard on Amazon Prime. It has been twenty years since the events of Star Trek: Nemesis, Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) has retired from Starfleet and is living out his days on the family vineyard. But when a young woman comes to him for help, Picard must journey into the dark void of space once again. Only this time he's doing it without Starfleet, forcing him to find a ship, and more importantly a crew willing to help him in his mission. Returning to one of the signature roles of your career can be risky, especially when the character is as beloved as Jean-Luc Picard. Luckily, Patrick Stewart makes it look easy, you wouldn't think it had been almost two decades since he last sat in the captain's chair. Picard...

Logan: Average Guy Movie Review

Over the last 17 years, Hugh Jackman has portrayed Logan in nine different movies. It's fair to say that some of the movies didn't impress, however Jackman has always done a brilliant job of bringing the character to life. It seems both poetic and punishing that Wolverine's last ride should also be his best. But it's better to see him go out with a bang rather than watch him try to cling to past glory. Logan is less of a comicbook movie and more a character driven action/adventure/drama. Set in the year 2029, almost all mutants are gone and Logan's healing abilities are diminishing, leaving him in constant pain. With the help of Caliban (Stephen Merchant) - a mutant who can sense other mutants - Logan is caring for an ailing Professor Xavier. The Professor is suffering from a degenerative brain disorder which causes him to have powerful seizures that can be devastating to those around him. The appearance of a woman and her mysterious daughter will force Logan a...
