The Magnificent Seven: Average Guy Movie Review

Antoine Fuqua is attempting to make the western popular again with his re-imagining of The Magnificent Seven. I say re-imagining because it's not a direct remake per say, with new characters and a new story built on the original premise, Fuqua has actually tried to bring something new to the screen. Denzel Washington stars as Sam Chisolm, a Warrant Officer hired by Emma Cullen (Haley Bennett) to assemble a group of hired guns to protect the town of Rose Creek. This time around, the seven are up against Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), an industrialist who terrorises the people of Rose Creek in order to steal their land and mine the area for gold. Now new is good, but in this day and age you've got to pull out all the stops to impress your audience.  So far reaction to The Magnificent Seven has been mixed. According to critics the cast have delivered enjoyable performances but it's felt the story brings nothing new to the genre. I've even heard the movie d

The Magnificent Seven: Moustache Trailer Reaction

The classic movie that was a remake is getting a re-imagining. Antoine Fuqua is bringing The Magnificent Seven back to the silver screen with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in the starring roles. Could this be a sign that the western is making a return or are they flogging a dead horse? The trailer is mostly action shots, you get the basic premise; a town is being victimised by industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the townspeople raise what little funds they can to hire gunfighters to protect them. As a widow puts it "I want righteousness...but I'll settle for revenge". What follows are gunfights, explosions and a bad guy being bad.  Denzel being...Denzel and Chris Pratt's funny tough guy are good choices for the lead roles, add to that Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Byung-hun Lee and Peter Sarsgaard and you've got a strong cast.  It looks like The Magnificent Seven will be a fun movie with a mix of action and humour, like classic

Should there be another Jurassic Park sequel?

We all know that the sequel to Jurassic World is happening, the question is should it? Images courtesy of Google Images Jurassic Park was a great movie, Steven Spielberg once again delivered us a summer blockbuster with a great story, cast and special effects. In fact the special effects were revolutionary for the time! Over twenty years and three sequels later I personally am left wondering if Universal and co. should stop milking this particular cash cow. Jurassic World like its predecessors delivered state of the art special effects but the story definitely felt like an after thought especially when considering the sheer number of product placements; "Verizon Wireless presents the Indominus Rex" and I'm only guessing but a fair chunk of the movie's budget too. It seemed there were more Mercedes Benz vehicles on that island than in the whole of Germany! Obviously this isn't unusual for Hollywood movies or more specifically the Jurassic Park movie
