The Suicide Squad | Average Guy Movie Review

A new batch of convicts - as well as a few originals - are under the thumb of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), who's once again offering years off their prison sentences in return for completing a few jobs for Uncle Sam. This time she's sending them to the island nation of Corto Maltese. There they must infiltrate the capital and destroy a top secret research facility. Sounds easy enough. Task Force X is back, and with James Gunn at the helm things are madder than ever! The Guardians of the Galaxy  director has taken what David Ayer started and blown the roof off of it. But he has done so in a way that is respectful of what has gone before. Fans of the original (of which there are apparently few) will have no trouble going from  Suicide Squad  to The Suicide Squad . And yet, the new movie stands quite happily on it's own two feet. Rather than making them drastically different, the returning characters simply feel like they have grown a bit. Well, maybe not grown, but adapted, t

James Gunn in Talks to Direct Suicide Squad 2

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Gunn is in talks to direct Suicide Squad 2, or The Suicide Squad as it has been titled. The Guardians of the Galaxy director was already brought in to write the script after he was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It seems like a logical step therefore, to bring him on as director. After all, he managed to make one of Marvel's most risky products a major success. Will he be able to do the same for DC's troubled rogues' gallery? 2016's Suicide Squad was the subject of major interest. Thought to be a lighter turn for DC after the doom and gloom of Batman v. Superman, it turned out to be a big disappointment for many. Major re-shoots took the movie in very different direction to what was originally intended, and a lot of fans were unhappy with the Joker being side lined into a much smaller role. It seems Gunn is planning to do something new with Task Force X. The Suicide Squad isn't going to be a direct

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Filming Pushed to 2021

According to Production Weekly ( @prodweek ), filming of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (under the working title "Hot Christmas") has been pushed to 2021. Which means we likely won't see a release until 2022. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise given the recent controversy that resulted in James Gunn being fired by Disney. Now they need time to find a replacement director. Taika Waititi is said to be one of the frontrunners, which would make sense after his work on Thor: Raganarok. I think Waititi's crazy style would fit well with a Guardians movie. But will this delay have other repercussions for the Guardians? Dave Bautista - who was very vocal about wanting Gunn reinstated - has said he's not sure if he will return for a third Guardians movie. The good news however, according to Gunn's brother Sean (Kraglin in GOTG Vol. 1&2) the script Gunn wrote is still being used. In a tweet James Gunn described the Vol. 3 script as "

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Average Guy Movie Review

The adventures of Groot and co. continue in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and lets face it, everyone is desperate to see Baby Groot in action. After saving the galaxy from Ronan the Accuser the Guardians are working as mercenaries, offering their services to the highest bidder. When one of the team (shall we say) liberates a precious item from one of their clients it triggers a chain of events that not only lead to Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) meeting his father, Ego (Kurt Russell) but to the Guardians having to save the galaxy once again. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been described as a continuation of the team's story rather than a sequel and that's pretty accurate.  As with all sequels, James Gunn is able to expand the universe, he  stated in an interview that most of the unanswered questions from the first movie would be answered in Vol. 2. The story picks up three months after the first Guardians movie with one of the most entertaining opening credits sequenc
