Jurassic ReWatch

Sixty-five million years ago dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Then in 1993 Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton, along with a few others, brought them back to life. With Jurassic Park , Spielberg did for dinosaurs, what he did for sharks back in 1975. In so doing, the master director added yet another blockbuster hit to his incredible filmography, and created a franchise as giant as the ancient creatures that inspired it. Ever since it arrived in cinemas, Jurassic Park has held the coveted title of OG dinosaur movie. Many have tried to nock it off the top spot - including all the JP / JW sequels that followed it - but none have succeeded. And it's easy to see why. The perfect blend of wonder, humour and horror, it is both an awe-inspiring monster/disaster movie and the perfect metaphor for man's destructive ambitions - our tendency to leap without looking, or even thinking. Which is why Spielberg is able to keep us waiting for the big dinosaur sequences, as he unravels this tragi...

Jurassic World: Dominion | Average Guy Movie Review

It has been four years since dinosaurs were released into the wild, and Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) are still fighting to protect them. But when their adopted daughter Maisie (Isabella Sermon) is kidnapped, along with Blue's infant, they find themselves embroiled in a corporate conspiracy. All the while, three survivors of the original park are investigating a global food crisis, one with links to the technology that built Jurassic World. The poster for Jurassic World: Dominion  promises "the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era". Unfortunately - but not unsurprisingly - it is a promise that the movie does not keep. That's not to say that it's all bad, because there are some fun and thrilling moments (occasionally involving an actual dinosaur or two), but it never really comes close to "epic". How could it when the very thing that Jurassic World  has been building towards (a world in which humans and dinosaurs must co...

Hunt for the Wilderpeople: Average Guy Movie Review

This year Marvel's God of Thunder is getting his third solo adventure, helming the project is New Zealand director Taika Waititi. This is the man responsible for what Empire Magazine called the number one movie of 2016; Hunt for the Wilderpeople. The story of Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison), a foster child who along with his foster 'Uncle', Hec (Sam Neill) are the subject of a nationwide manhunt when they disappear into the bush. If you like quirky comedy dramas that have real heart, look no further!  The only way I can think to describe this movie is Crocodile Dundee meets Smokey and the Bandit. Although Uncle Hec makes Crocodile Dundee look civilised! There is definitely an element of 'what the fuck am I watching' but it just adds to the laughs, at no point did I want to watch something else. Neil and Dennison are brilliant together, this pairing should become one of legend, up there with C-3PO and R2-D2, Kuryakin and Solo, Holmes and Watson. Watching De...
