Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 | Average Guy Movie Review

A lot has changed for the Guardians since the blip brought back all those that Thanos snapped away. They have taken over Nowhere, turned it into a haven for refugees and lost souls, and in the process become de facto governors of this potentially smelly colony. They've even got a cool new ship - the 'Bowie' - and discovered the spirit of Christmas. Not that any of this has helped Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who is still struggling with the loss of Gamora (Zoe Saldana). But when Rocket (Bradley Cooper) is badly wounded in an attack, the gang head off in search of the technology that could save their friend, and in so doing draw the attention of someone from Rocket's past; the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji). It would seem that James Gunn's parting gift to Marvel before going on to head up DC Studios was to give them their mojo back. Put simply,  Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a return to form for the MCU . The last couple of movies have been a tad under par f

Glass Onion | Average Guy Movie Review

When he's invited to a tech billionaire's murder/mystery party on an isolated Greek island, Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) finds himself a new case to solve. A mystery wrapped in a jumble of mysteries, starting with what this weekend getaway in the middle of Covid lockdown is really about. But to do it, the great detective will also have to deal with the Coven of Douchebaggery joining him on this little trip. Just as Rian Johnson intended, his latest foray into the world of murder mysteries feels like a "new novel off the shelf". I agree with Johnson that adding "A Knives Out  Mystery" to the title was a mistake. For even though this is an entirely new mystery - similar to that of Poirot  or Murder She Wrote  - there is a sense of familiarity to Glass Onion , thanks to the 'dial it up to 11' style that made Knives Out  so much fun, and of course, the return of Benoit Blanc. Johnson's take on the great detective continues to be this fascinating, deli

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special | Average Guy Movie Review

In an effort to cheer up Quill (Chris Pratt), and restore his love of Christmas, Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax (Dave Bautista) travel to Earth in search of the perfect gift. With the help of Marvel  and the Guardians of the Galaxy , James Gunn has finally got the chance to share his love of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special , and to spread a little festive cheer while he's at it, with his very own Holiday Special. But a Holiday Special born from Gunn's interesting sense of humour can only mean we're in for another gonzo galactic adventure, one served with copious amounts of cheese, and - rather unsurprisingly - an excellent soundtrack. All of which Gunn delivers, and more. Seeing the Guardians deliver Christmas in their own (very) weird way, it turns out, is actually a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit. As well as being a delightfully sappy adventure, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special  is a fun way to catch up with the gang before the arrival of

Dune | Average Guy Movie Review

At a time when his family is called upon to protect the galaxy's most valuable resource; Spice - a material that can extend human life, makes interstellar travel possible, and is only found on the desert planet of Arrakis - Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) is trying to figure out if he's going to be the man everyone wants him to be. But with treachery closing in on House Atreides from all sides, and the Spice fields up for grabs, he's going to have to figure it out quick. The man who brought us an epic sequel to Blade Runner  has gone in search of an even bigger challenge, and the one he has set his heart on is Frank Herbert's sci-fi classic;  Dune . This highly influential novel has in the past proven rather difficult to adapt for both the big and small screen. Not that that would deter someone like Denis Villeneuve, for whom making Dune  has been a life-long ambition. Something that definitely shows in his recreation of this vast and rich universe. Everything is very

Army of the Dead | Average Guy Movie Review

After a zombie outbreak Las Vegas is quarantined, sealed off from the rest of the world. Years later, the government plans to nuke the city, destroying it and the undead infestation. Before that happens, casino owner Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada) wants Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) - the leader of a militia that aided in the evacuation of Las Vegas - and a team of mercenaries to infiltrate the city and retrieve the $200 million locked in the vault of Tanaka's casino. And they've only got four days to do it. $200 million, zombie infested city, four days... what could possibly go wrong? I'm not really a fan of zombie movies, unless it's Shaun of the Dead  of course. But the idea of pulling off a heist in a zombie infested Las Vegas sounds like quite a fun concept for a movie, even if you know everything will probably go horribly wrong. It is a zombie movie after all. Zack Snyder has built an incredible and colourful world in which zombies exist - the opening credits montage

Blade Runner 2049 | Average Guy Movie Review

After 30 years, we return to the world of Blade Runner. A lot has changed since Deckard (Harrison Ford) and Rachael (Sean Young) went on the run. Life on Earth has got a lot worse for those who can't afford to leave for the outer colonies. The new breed of Blade Runner - like Ryan Gosling's 'Officer K' - continue to hunt replicants, specifically the Nexus 8, a model with a longer lifespan and the last remnants of the now bankrupt Tyrell Corporation. On a routine assignment K uncovers a mystery that'll lead him to Deckard and draw the attention of Neander Wallace (Jared Leto). Wallace, the father of a new generation of replicants, wants something he believes Deckard has and will stop at nothing to get it. Before watching Blade Runner 2049 it's worth watching the three prequel shorts. They provide some history of the period between 2019 and 2049. Click here to view them on YouTube. Denis Villeneuve has done a magnificent job of recreating the wor

BLADE RUNNER 2049 | Moustache Trailer Reaction

We have another trailer for Blade Runner 2049. Once again it's filled with interesting characters, absolutely stunning visuals and a lot of mystery. As much as we get to see more of the world first seen 35 years ago, and a lot of work has been done to authentically recreate this dystopian Los Angeles, once again we are left with more questions than answers! Front and centre is Ryan Gosling's 'K' and his investigation, what he's investigating we don't know. It involves his search for Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who - for some reason - has been on the run for 30 years. This search may or may not be the reason K crosses path with Dave Bautista, an encounter that results in a broken wall. One person who's not happy with what K is doing is his boss, played by Robin Wright, she's convinced that his actions could start a war. But how does Joi (Ana De Armas) figure into things? Is she K's connection to the Tyrell Corporation or just someone ca
