Joker: Folie à Deux | Average Guy Movie Review

The tragedy of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) continues... Two years after the events of Joker , Arthur is in Arkham State Hospital awaiting trial for his crimes. There he meets Lee Quinzel (Lady Gaga), and a chaotic relationship between the pair begins. But is it Arthur that Lee is interested in, or Joker? It's both strange, and hardly surprising that what felt like a perfect standalone movie, Joker , got a sequel. Joker: Folie à Deux  somehow manages to feel both engaging and rather unnecessary. There's no denying the interest that circulated prior to release - I was certainly interested to catch up with Arthur Fleck, even after Folie à Deux was met with great criticism. But even though I was interested in a sequel, I wouldn't say I was desperate for it to happen. And now there's quite a few people that wish it hadn't, although I'm not sure I'm one of them. Unsurprisingly, Folie à Deux  is a very different movie to its predecessor, even without the musica...

The Harder They Fall | Average Guy Movie Review

Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) reassembles his old gang when the man that murdered his parents; Rufus Buck (Idris Elba), gets out of jail. Jeymes Samuel makes his directorial debut with The Harder They Fall , a story of revenge in the American West. And as directorial debuts go, this is a pretty good one. Falling somewhere between the stark, gritty reality of life way back when and the cool depiction of it seen in many westerns, Samuel doesn't exactly do anything new with the genre, but he does do it with style. With a cast like this it would be difficult to do it any other way! Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Regina King, Zazie Beatz, Delroy Lindo, LaKeith Stanfield, Edi Gathegi, RJ Cyler, Danielle Deadwyler, all of whom exude cool as they battle their way across the plains. Needless to say, all of the performances are spectacular. Even the nasty characters are in some way likeable, most of them anyway. Stanfield's 'Cherokee Bill' is a particular scene stealer as the man who...

Deadpool 2 | Average Guy Movie Review

The Merc with the Mouth is back and this time...he's got a Celine Dion song. When Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) tries to help a troubled young mutant named Russell (Julian Dennison), he's set on a collision course with Thanos, I mean Cable (Josh Brolin) - a time travelling cyborg looking to change the future. In order to protect Russell, Wade will need to assemble the X-Force, a team of colourful individuals, and one guy with a moustache. When I first heard that Tim Miller had left the project due to "creative differences" with Ryan Reynolds, I was more than a bit concerned that a promising new franchise was going the way of Universal's Dark Universe! Said concern started to fade with the announcement that David Leitch - who's work I'm a big fan of - had been hired to replace Miller. And I'm pleased to say he didn't disappoint, having used his considerable experience to create some phenomenal action sequences that fit perfectly with the Deadp...
