The Crow (2024) | Average Guy Movie Review

When he and his girlfriend Shelly (FKA Twigs) are murdered, Eric Draven (Bill Skarsgård)'s soul is unable to rest. So he is given the chance to return to the land of the living in order to seek revenge on those that murdered them, in the hope that the couple's souls might one day be reunited. As remakes go, there are some that are less controversial. Making the decision to remake The Crow  seem strange, at best. Why would you mess with such a movie? Not only has the 1994 original achieved 'cult classic' status, it is also well known for being the final film of star Brandon Lee, and serves as a tribute to his memory. You might even call it ‘legendary’. So a remake of such a film will always inspire some strong opinions. Opinions that, very likely, won't work in your favour. That said, director Rupert Sanders has at least done a few things right. For one thing Bill Skarsgård is great as the tortured soul at the heart of this story. Far from an undead warrior, he bring

Angel Has Fallen | Average Guy Movie Review

When Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) is framed for an attempt on President Trumbull's (Morgan Freeman) life, he must go on the run in order to prove his innocence. But with law enforcement and the real attackers on his trail, Banning must turn to the last person he'd choose, for help. The question is; can he expose the conspirators in time to save the President? The Scottish/American hero is back once again to save the President, only this time it's his turn to fall - from grace that is. If Olympus Has Fallen is Die Hard in the White House, and London Has Fallen is basically Die Hard 2, Angel Has Fallen is definitely The Fugitive. For the most part it is another instalment in the Mike Banning on the war path franchise, but director Rick Roman Waugh has at least tried to change things up with Angel. More importantly, he has dialled back the cheese. Olympus was cheesy, London took it to an unnecessary level, so it was quite refreshing that Banning isn't spouting ch

Wonder Woman | Average Guy Movie Review

In her first solo outing, we get to see Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman save humanity for the first time. After growing up on the hidden island paradise of Themyscira, Diana, Princess of the Amazons witnesses a plane crash off the coast. From the wreckage she pulls Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), an American spy on the run from the Germans. When his pursuers arrive at Themyscira, the Amazons are exposed to a war that spans the globe. Convinced that Ares is responsible, Diana heads off in search of the God of War so she can kill him and restore peace. At this point you may be thinking: do I need to see another superhero origin story? Well probably not, but do we really "need" any movie? Wonder Woman is the fourth movie in the DCEU and according to many, the first to get the tone right. Despite being set during one of our darkest periods in history, Patty Jenkins still manages to bring humour to the proceedings. It really is a fish out of water story for both Diana and Steve. F
