After suffering his first defeat, Superman (David Corenswet) finds that the battle for the hearts and minds of the people can be a lot harder than simply saving them. But while he attempts to be a beacon of hope, a maniacal Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) does everything he can to stop him, manipulating events from the shadows. In rebooting the DC  universe, James Gunn found himself a mammoth task. Thankfully - and rather unsurprisingly - it is one he has more than risen to. A bunch of mercenaries - and one civilian - find themselves working together after they are all betrayed by the same person. It’s a journey that forces them to examine their own misdeeds as much as those of the people they’re going after. They just have to stay alive long enough to expose this major conspiracy, and convince the powers that be that, on this occasion, they’re not the bad guys. On the face of it, Thunderbolts*  is a typical Marvel  team-up movie. A bunch of super people, who don't get along, are forced to team up in order to save the world, or at least New York. Only this time the super people aren't exactly the cream of the crop. They're not even the B team. In fact, they're probably the last people you'd want to call, unless you're planning something illegal, that is. And even then you wouldn't want them working together. For Christmas I was given the Jack Ryan  movie boxset, and with the third season of the show starring John Krasinski now available on Amazon Prime, it seemed like the perfect time to revisit the franchise. Despite having been constantly rebooted and recast, the series has consistently produced tense and exciting action/thrillers...  mostly. Four out of five ain't bad! The Hunt for Red October The first of the Jack Ryan  movies has all the intrigue of a spy thriller, and all of the tension of a submarine movie, making it the perfect movie to kick off the franchise.
