Assassin's Creed: Average Guy Movie Review

Well, it has finally happened! Hollywood has actually managed to make a decent adaptation of a video game. It's only taken 24 years! Assassin's Creed sticks fairly close to the story of the first game, to which they've added some tweaks.  Cal Lynch (Michael Fassbender) - a descendent of a secret order of Assassins - is saved from death row by a mysterious corporation known as Abstergo. Their goal, is to find the Apple of Eden, an ancient artefact said to hold the genetic code for free will. Using a machine called the Animus, they plan to unlock the memories of Cal's ancestor, Aguilar - one of the protectors of the Apple - who is believed to know the artefact's location. Much like the video game series, this movie is intended to be the first in a series. It opens up multiple timelines to explore plus the ongoing modern day storyline. The movie is beautifully shot with the sophisticated, sleek present day contrasting with 15th Century Spain (shot

Triple 9: Average Guy Movie Review

Anyone who has seen Shawn Ryan's The Shield will have an idea of what to expect with Triple 9. Cops who do their job but are also out to take care of themselves. If you're looking for a nice movie, don't bother with this, it's a gritty view of crime, police work and life in Atlanta, but if you want an interesting movie grounded in reality with great characters you should definitely watch Triple 9. The plot revolves around a heist crew made up of two ex-special forces operators  (Ejiofor and Reedus) , two cops (Mackie and Collins Jr) and an ex-cop (Paul) who work for the head of the Russian mob (Winslet). They are forced to take on a high risk job and in order to delay and diminish any Police response, plan to murder a cop (radio code for such an incident is 999 - urgent assistance), the cop they pick is Mackie's partner played by Casey Affleck. To complicate matters for the crew, Ejiofor has a child with Winslet's sister (Gadot), Winslet uses this to her

The Gambler: Average Guy Movie Review

"The only way out is all in." Once you start watching The Gambler you feel compelled to see how it ends. Will he pay what he owes? Will he lose it all? Is this the story of a man's end or his salvation? Now you may be wondering why I'm suggesting you watch a film about a degenerate gambler (Mark Wahlberg) digging himself a hole that he may or may not be able to get out of. But it's more about a man who feels life is empty and meaningless, looking for a reason to live. Now I never said this was a movie without cliche! The reason he finds is a woman; Brie Larson plays a student in Wahlberg's English class. The class is a source of his misery, it's full of talentless students who don't want to be there including two promising sportsmen who he's basically being forced to pass by the University. Brie Larson's character shows real talent and at first Wahlberg tries to keep his distance but when she shows interest in him he  finds it harder t
