Hunter Killer | Average Guy Movie Review

When a US submarine goes missing under the Arctic, Commander Joe Glass (Gerard Butler) is ordered to lead the USS Arkansas to the last known location. Their mission is to locate the missing sub, rescue any survivors and investigate the cause of the disappearance. The only problem is, the incident may have got the US entangled in some serious Russian political turmoil. And in order to de-escalate the situation, the Arkansas and her crew will have to go where no American vessel has gone before. Now it sounds like Gerard Butler has made another movie in which his very Scottishy sounding, uber patriotic American hero saves the day. Well you'd be kind of right for thinking that. But Butler actually tones down the gung-ho, OTT shit this time round. Both he and director Donovan Marsh spent a few days aboard the USS Houston in order to get a feel for life on a submarine. The result of which is a more authentic performance from Butler, he's more reserved than we're used to s

Titles For The Avatar Sequels May Have Been Leaked

BBC News is reporting that they have seen "documentation regarding future Avatar plans". These documents are said to reference four specific projects: Avatar: The Way of Water Avatar: The Seed Bearer Avatar: The Tulkun Rider Avatar: The Quest for Eywa According to James Cameron; future instalments will explore Pandora's ocean. Cameron told Collider that Avatar 2 and 3 would feature "a tremendous amount of water work". Part of this will be achieved using footage captured by a deep-water submersible exploring the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Scenes have also been filmed with the cast under water and wearing motion capture suits, another first for the technology. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the director also revealed that Kate Winslet will be playing one of the "reef people". Sigourney Weaver will be reprising her role of Doctor Grace Augustine - although we're not sure how. Recently she told The Hollywood R

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Filming Pushed to 2021

According to Production Weekly ( @prodweek ), filming of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (under the working title "Hot Christmas") has been pushed to 2021. Which means we likely won't see a release until 2022. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise given the recent controversy that resulted in James Gunn being fired by Disney. Now they need time to find a replacement director. Taika Waititi is said to be one of the frontrunners, which would make sense after his work on Thor: Raganarok. I think Waititi's crazy style would fit well with a Guardians movie. But will this delay have other repercussions for the Guardians? Dave Bautista - who was very vocal about wanting Gunn reinstated - has said he's not sure if he will return for a third Guardians movie. The good news however, according to Gunn's brother Sean (Kraglin in GOTG Vol. 1&2) the script Gunn wrote is still being used. In a tweet James Gunn described the Vol. 3 script as "

So That Avengers 4 Trailer Leak...Do We Believe It?

Warning: Possible Spoilers Esquire have recently reported on a post to the Marvel Studios subreddit. A user posted what is supposed to be a description of a leaked trailer for Avengers 4, which has now been deleted. But the question is; is it real? Some consider it "too detailed to be fake", while others are calling it "bad fan fiction". Here's what the post said: The trailer starts off showing the damaged Infinity Gauntlet in a field on the farm planet. As the camera focuses in on the gauntlet, we hear Tony's voice: "We were destined to lose." Epic music score starts. The Quinjet is shown landing in a Wakandan wasteland as we hear Rogers say: "We have come so far." Tony and Nebula step off the jet as the remaining Avengers approach. Steve has a look of relief and says: "Tony". Tony, seemingly defeated, shakes his head and gives a friendly smirk back to Cap. Marvel Studios logo appears. We get a glimpse

A Star Is Born | Average Guy Movie Review

When Country Singer Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) meets Ally (Lady Gaga), a talented singer performing in a bar, he is instantly captivated. A romance between the two quickly grows and Jackson encourages Ally to sing with him at gigs. But as her star rises, his begins to fade and as it does, his struggles with addiction only worsen. Bradley Cooper's directorial debut is nothing short of a triumph. The word "masterpiece" gets thrown around a lot these days, But A Star Is Born truly fits that bill. This is a love story. But more than that, it's a beautifully candid and respectful look at addiction, and how it affects those relationships we hold most dear. Cooper never shy's away from the ugliness of the disease, which makes for a very moving and authentic viewing experience. But it's thanks to some outstanding performances by the two leads that addiction's destructive effect is really felt. Cooper and Gaga are perfect together, both on an

Mile 22 | Average Guy Movie Review

A covert unit of the CIA known as "Overwatch" is tasked with extracting a local informant from an unidentified Asian country. The group have just 90 minutes to get this asset - who holds information regarding a future attack - the 22 miles to an airfield outside the city, where a plane is waiting to transport him to the US. But the Americans aren't the only ones interested in this information, and members of the local government will stop at nothing to get it. After three previous movies, Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg's fourth collaboration marks the first time they've worked on a fictional story together. Although it is based on a supposedly real unit within the CIA - how would we ever know if it was real or not? That said, I like to think members of the real unit would use a little more discretion on operations such as this, which might be the reason why we have never heard of them. But it is an exciting - albeit done before - concept; a race against

Venom | Average Guy Movie Review

When investigative journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) starts looking into the Life Foundation and its head, Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), he makes a shocking discovery. Drake's astronauts have discovered alien life, which they're bringing back to Earth. Through his investigation, Brock is accidentally exposed to one of the life forms. This "symbiote" as it's known bonds with him, granting him incredible powers and abilities. The question is, what will he do with those powers? In the build-up to it's release, Venom has received a lot of negativity, it has been described as "unexciting" and "aggressively loud and stupid" by critics. When I read this I have to ask; what movie were they watching? Venom is a simple yet fun comic book movie/origin story/buddy comedy. Thanks to some great special effects, all of the symbiotes look great, especially when interacting with their hosts. The action is very exciting, although it does take a wh
