Greyhound | Average Guy Movie Review

Greyhound is the lead ship in an escort group assigned to protect a convoy of merchant ships crossing the Atlantic in World War 2. Captain Ernie Krause (Tom Hanks), a career Navy man in his first command, must lead the fight against a wolfpack of German U-Boats. But will he be able to fight off the silent hunters long enough to get the convoy to the safety of British waters? If ever there was a reason for you to sign up to Apple TV+, this is it. Much like Christopher Nolan said about Dunkirk, the movie Greyhound is more of an experience than a movie, which makes it a real shame that we didn't get to see it on the big screen, as it was intended. After a very brief introduction, the audience is thrown into the hell of life onboard a ship in the middle of the Atlantic in 1942. The whole story is told from the point of view of Captain Krause and his crew. Events are witnessed from the deck of the Greyhound and the occasional aerial shot, the German U-Boats are only glimpsed briefly as

Da 5 Bloods | Average Guy Movie Review

Four veterans return to Vietnam to recover the body of their fallen squad leader, Stormin' Norman (Chadwick Boseman)... and the stash of CIA gold they buried with him. But they soon discover that returning is not as easy as it first seemed, and finding the gold might just be the least of their worries. Director Spike Lee delivers another brutal examination of the racial and political climate in the US. This time he's looking at the Vietnam war and its undying legacy, once again proving that not much has changed in the supposed "land of the free". In depicting events, Lee draws inspiration from some classic Vietnam war movies - shooting in some beautiful locations - and despite going a little over the top on the Apocalypse Now references, it does give the movie a level of authenticity. Shooting the flashback scenes in a different aspect ratio, using film available at the time only adds to this. There are times where the plot feels a little convenient (people showing up

Will We Ever See Battlefield: Bad Company 3? | I Hope So

My recent return to the PlayStation 3 got me thinking, well actually it got me playing a lot of games I haven't played in years. But then it got me thinking; will we ever see Battlefield: Bad Company 3? It has been ten years since the release of Bad Company 2, and fans are still calling for a follow up. Who can blame them? Well certainly not me... seeing as I'm one of them. Battlefield is well known for its multiplayer, and rightly so, but Bad Company was the first game in the series to feature a single-player campaign, and it set the bar very high with its engrossing story, fun characters and exciting gameplay. It helped that the big, open maps featured varying terrain that was fun to explore and almost totally destructible. The excitement of course bled into the multiplayer - not to mention the incredible maps and all of that delicious destruction - making other multiplayer games look dull in comparison, especially with the new game mode 'Rush'. Then t

Zack Snyder’s Justice League | Moustache Teaser Reaction

The first teaser for 'Zack Snyder's Justice League' has landed. Not seen it yet? Check it out below: It's only a quick snippet of the new things to come, but it does have a small reveal. It seems that Diana Prince was doing some research into Darseid, and in the process discovered an ancient painting of the man himself. The clip has a slightly Indiana Jones feel to it, apart from Lex Luthor's ramblings about bells not being un-rung playing over the top. After that we're treated to a shot of the world conquering alien which looks suspiciously like one that featured Steppenwolf in the theatrical cut of Justice League. Other than that, there's not really much to say. Undoubtedly it's just an attempt to keep this interesting project current. But it's good to see that this much whispered about character might actually make an appearance, when we finally get to see Zack Snyder's vision for the Justice League sometime next year. What did you think of th

Life in Lockdown | Revisiting the PlayStation 3

I know I usually write about movies, but every now and then you have to branch out. And with not a lot going on in the movie world right now, I thought it would be fun to revisit some old video games. So I dusted off my PlayStation 3 and began perusing my collection of games. Grand Theft Auto IV was my first choice, followed quickly by "The Ballad of Gay Tony" expansion, and I must say they didn't disappoint. The Liberty City/New York setting is a lot of fun all on its own. Populated with plenty of colourful characters, it's actually a pretty accurate - if not a little extreme - depiction of city living. GTA IV benefits from an interesting protagonist. Nico Bellic is a complicated individual, dealing with his past and a little conflicted over his criminal career, he wants to be a better person. But it's his way of dealing with the criminals he works for that makes him so compelling; he doesn't buy into their bullshit, and he's not afraid to call t

Tenet | Moustache Trailer Reaction

The new trailer for Tenet has landed and it's mind-bending! If you haven't seen it yet, or you just want to watch it again, check it out below: As you'd expect, we still don't really know much, other than the movie looks awesome. If it helps here is the official synopsis: "Armed with only one word -- Tenet -- and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time." The first thing I think of when I watch this trailer is a certain line from Inception; "you mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger darling." I think this is basically Christopher Nolan's mantra, the words he must live by - or at least applies to his work. Nolan is a writer/director who's great across the board. He can do action, drama, tension, emotion, good characters, and he does it all very well. With Tenet there'
