What's Up, Moustache? #6 | Ten Years!!!

I've been thinking about Grosse Pointe Blank  a lot lately. Specifically, the scene in which Jeremy Piven repeatedly screams "TEN YEARS!!!" at John Cusack. Now you may be wondering why. Or, maybe not. Maybe you figured it out before you clicked the link. The point is, I don’t see another goddamn movie blogger, so pipe down. Anyway... ten years ago today, The Movie Moustache  went live. Although it was Moustache Movie News  back then. It all started with a little post about the then upcoming Jurassic World  sequel - what would turn out to be Fallen Kingdom   - and whether they should stop. Needless to say, they did not listen, as we've had three  Jurassic  sequels since then. And ten years later, even though I have enjoyed some of those sequels, I'm still wondering how many more dino adventures they could or should get out of this prehistoric franchise. But that's not the only milestone we've passed in the last decade. My favourite movie,  Ba...

What's Up, Moustache? #5 | Christmas Movie Watchlists

Here we go again! The jolliest of holidays, the most festive of festivities, is back to haunt us. Yep, it's Christmas. Which means it's time to do all that stuff we love to do around the holidays. Putting up trees and decorations. Wrapping presents. Oh, and my personal favourite... enduring the same shitty Christmas music over and over. Although I am loving all the Mariah Carey memes, this year. But on a more serious note; there are radio stations dedicated to Christmas music, and some of them have been live since September! Who the hell is listening to Christmas music in September?! However, it's not all bad. There's usually copious amounts of delicious food to consume, and some excellent movies to be watched. Often times, you can combine the two. How many Christmases have been saved by a good movie and/or some tasty food? I don't know if it has saved Christmas 2025, but before writing this I watched Planes, Trains & Automobiles . Not exactly a Christmas film, ...

What's Up, Moustache? #4 | Punishing, Avenging... Bonding?

Vigilantes with skull themed body armour and radioactive mops, as well as a possible new candidate for the role of 007. It seems we have a lot to talk about. First off; Spider-Man may be making a new friend. Oh the irony... Peter Parker's first solo outing since he made the world forget about him. His first without a super-duper, teched-out Stark suit, and he's going up against a vigilante with more ammunition than the US Marine Corp. That's right, Jon Bernthal is said to be appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day  as Frank Castle. Do we know what he's doing? Not really, no. Does it matter? Absolutely not! As long as it involves Frank decimating legions of villains with wilful abandon, whilst engaging in hilarious repartee with Tom Holland's Wall-Crawler. This is going to be a lot of fun! We've already enjoyed seeing Bernthal's Punisher  fight with and alongside Charlie Cox's Daredevil , and now he's finally getting the chance to bring the character t...

What's Up, Moustache? #3 | Spaceballs: The Sequel

They better not fuck this up! That was my first thought when I heard they were developing a sequel to the beloved sci-fi comedy, Spaceballs . I know I'm not alone in this. In fact, I'm sure there are many people thinking exactly the same thing. Probably even more so, now that the hilarious teaser has dropped. After 40 years, we asked "What do the fans want?" But instead, we're making this movie. Nothing is known of the plot, despite Mel Brooks' helpful introduction, but according to Deadline , the sequel has been described "by those who have not yet read the script" as "A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part 2 but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film". Which suggests - rather reassuringly - that those involved clearly aren't taking this too seriously, and that it's highly likely  Disney is going to be the butt of many jokes. That last one being rather important! The trouble is, these legacy sequels can be rather risky. On th...

What's Up, Moustache? #2 | It's a Good News/Bad News Day for DC

Ever since it was announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran were taking over as the heads of DC Studios, there has been a lot of speculation regarding the future of the DC Universe. But the last 24 hours has seen DC playing a fast game of Good News/Bad News. Include last week's revelation that Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3 has been shelved, and you could argue that it's a case of Bad News/Good News/Bad News. Yesterday Jenkins responded to all the speculation surrounding the move: pic.twitter.com/E6IdujcgTt — Patty Jenkins (@PattyJenks) December 14, 2022 This latest wave of speculation began with a story from Variety , claiming that James Gunn and Peter Safran were considering bringing Matt Reeves' take on Batman (along with Robert Pattinson) into the wider DC universe; " A well-placed source says Gunn and Safran are exploring the possibility of incorporating filmmaker Matt Reeves’ iteration of Batman with actor Robert Pattinson into their wider universe ." ...

They're Back! | My Return To The Cinema... Again

Normally when I watch a movie (either on the big or small screen) I write a review, share my thoughts on that movie with whoever wants to read it. But given the turmoil of the last year and a half, something which forced cinemas around the world to close their doors, permanently in some cases, it seemed more appropriate to write something about the experience. After seven months of no cinema, the place never looked so good! The first thing that hit me - apart from the excitement of finally going back to the big screen - was the smell. As I walked in the door of my local Cineworld it was there; the delicious smell of warm popcorn. Even through the mask it was delightfully strong. It was something I hadn't realised I missed, but it felt like a warm welcome. The feeling of being back in one of those seats, popcorn in hand, was fantastic. For once the adverts seemed to fly by, giving way to the trailers. I was so pleased to be back that even the new Conjuring movie looked good (I am no...

Jimmy Woo Spin-Off? Yes Please!

I think it's fair to say - even though we're only half way through the season - that WandaVision has been a rather successful endeavour for Marvel Studios. The team behind the show have certainly set the bar high for those working on the other upcoming Marvel TV shows, maybe even the movies too. But one of the more surprising outcomes of WandaVision is the possibility of Randall Park's FBI Agent Jimmy Woo getting his own show. Stephen Ford (Teen Wolf, Private Practice) has expressed interest in creating a spin-off show for the FBI agent, described as "Like a fun X-Files". Given the character's comic book history, and Randall Park's quirky performance, the possibilities for a show like this are endless. Which is probably why the idea quickly grew in popularity, so much so in fact, Ford is apparently writing a pitch for his idea. Ford first shared his idea on social media on 30th January: Hear me out: An entire Disney+ show about Jimmy Woo just working weir...
