FOXBODY | Average Guy Movie Review

The story of two people's attempts to navigate a turbulent relationship, parenthood, and a life of crime. Cameron Monaghan's directorial debut - which you can watch below - proves to be a tense and dynamic affair as two lovers find themselves tangled up in a robbery gone wrong. Flashing between key moments in Bonnie (Kelli Berglund) & Clyde (Monaghan)'s relationship and the present day, Foxbody  opens on a moustachioed and bleeding Clyde as he heads to his family's desert home in their foxbody Mustang. Where, quite understandably, his wife is none too happy to see him. There are some familiar story beats to this little crime story, but that doesn't stop Monaghan - who also wrote and produced the film - from doing his own thing with them. In many ways the film resembles classic crime dramas of the 1970's and 80's, while the desert setting gives it a western vibe. And yet, Foxbody  still has a few surprises in store for us. Namely, a vibrant dance number t...

Do You Like Scary Movie?

Do you like Scary Movie ? Well whether you do or not, it has returned! Much like that body you and your friends once tried to dispose of, or the one that crawled out of your TV. And now it's coming home! The movie, that is. Which is why I decided to take a look back at this up until now almost forgotten franchise. To see - or at least remind myself - what all the fuss was about, and more importantly, why it wore out its welcome. Many, many years have passed since I watched the original Scary Movie , and in that time I've forgotten pretty much everything about this horror parody. Apart from a Doofy highlight reel, of course. On the face of it, Scary Movie  is an amusing skewering of Scream  and I Know What You Did Last Summer . The two movies are squished together with a healthy dose of slapstick to form a fairly coherent teen slasher flick. One with comical jabs at the likes of  The Usual Suspects , Final Destination , American Pie , and a certain infamous Budweiser adver...

Trench of the Damned | Average Guy Movie Review

During a Christmas ceasefire in 1944, two American soldiers serving in northern Europe encounter a nightmare they did not expect. Trench of the Damned  could be a spiritual sequel to Overlord . With allied soldiers on the front lines of northern Europe falling foul of some gruesome Nazi experiments. Unsurprisingly, there is an eeriness to this short film, but also an authenticity. In fact, bar a couple of anachronisms, it's impressive how period accurate everything looks. That unnerving eeriness, however, goes well beyond the dark and freezing fog of winter, as the twisted screams of whatever it is the Nazis have cooked up, haunt the battlefield. Could this simply be a test? Maybe even part of some larger battle plan? Or is it nothing more than a last ditch attempt to snatch victory from the allies? Whatever it is, this late-night encounter certainly comes as a surprise to Burke (Daniel Griesheimer) and Kincaid (Motti Ken). Griesheimer and Motti bring a restless energy to the two s...
