Ghostbusters Trailer 2: Moustache Trailer Reaction

This week two videos were released on the internet: first we got the second trailer for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot which was followed pretty closely by Screen Junkies' "Why does Everyone Hate Ghostbusters?"

Much like the first trailer, we got to see a lot of very slap stick comedy and over the top characters. I know Feig is trying to put his own spin on the franchise but I think he's gone too far. The original was funny because it involved characters that felt like real people, four average guys (with PHD's) tackling anything paranormal in New York City, including the apocalypse.

The new team and their secretary feel more like cartoon characters with antics that feel like the writers are trying too hard to be funny, like Patty giving a dragon ghost a piggy back ride of sorts while people around her take selfies. Before you start leaving angry comments about how sexist I am, let me point out that gender isn't the issue, in fact I'd say the cast is the only good thing about this movie! Also, note to whoever makes the trailers: no more spoilers, this is not you're opportunity to give away plot points, we don't need to see a main character get possessed in every trailer!

As you can probably tell I am unimpressed by this movie so far. In fact it may shock you to know I want to see it, maybe it's curiosity or maybe I just want to know if I'm right about it. Screen Junkies made a video questioning the negativity surrounding this movie, which is interesting given their response to the first trailer. Essentially the Screen Junkies concluded don't judge a book by its cover. In principle I agree with this but the point of a trailer is to generate interest in the movie. Granted, some great movies have crap trailers and some crap movies have great trailers, but essentially they exist to help you decide whether you want to see the movie or not.

Ghostbusters has seen quite an extreme reaction, the most hated trailer on YouTube. Now some just don't like what they see whereas others have been negative for extremely stupid reasons. The point is everyone can have an opinion, they can be proven wrong and they can change that opinion. If Ghostbusters is good, word will get out and more people will see it. But you can't criticise people for almost unanimously hating the movie based on the trailers, it's all part of the movie going experience.

The tagline of the original movie is "who ya gonna call?" It seems more relevant now in that people are asking themselves; do I want to see this reboot or would I rather watch the original?

But considering my not so positive review of Jason Bourne, one of the most highly anticipated movies of Summer 2016, I thought it might be worth trying to explain why I reached the verdict I did. 4DX – Is it worth it or just a gimmick?

Having watched the promo video what do you think? This week I saw Ghostbusters in 4DX and it definitely made the movie more of a ride. In fact 4DX feels like it was designed to appeal to the roller coaster crowd but will you miss the experience when watching the same movies at home? When I saw Ghostbusters for the second time I decided to view it in 4DX because I wanted to know what the "environmental effects" did for the movie going experience.
