Some Exciting Stuff Came Out Of SDCC's Hall H | Moustache Reaction

There was some exciting stuff coming out of this years San Diego Comic Con! This includes panels for the Game of Thrones spin-off; House of The Dragon, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. And lets not forget the trailers for I Am Groot and John Wick: Chapter 4. The latter being particularly exciting for me, as our favourite assassin not only takes on another legion of killers in his feud with the High Table, but also must face up to the question of "where this ends".

Obviously DC and Marvel to give us a glimpse of their upcoming slates, although DC's wasn't quite on the same scale as Marvel's. This might have something to do with the controversy surrounding some of their stars, but it certainly didn't stop them from wowing us with the two trailers they did show us.

First up we've got a new trailer for Black Adam, which hits UK cinemas on 21st October. Dwayne Johnson's titular all-powerful being is causing chaos while Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate - along with the help of the Justice Society - try to convince him to do some good. There's not a lot that's new here, but I do still think this an interesting new direction for DCThe visuals and the action look great, and after years of being described as too dark, the DCEU will be a slightly lighter place with Johnson in it - even playing a darker role like Black Adam. And I can't wait to see him go up against Zachary Levi's Shazam!

Speaking of, the transforming hero also got a new trailer for the upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods. It seems that young Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and his superhero alter ego are struggling with their new-found responsibilities, as well as their new super-siblings. You know you're in trouble when you fall out of the sky with your super suit on fire! Sometimes however, you do just have to grow up - or at least act the part - because there will always be someone looking to take what you have, and in this case it's the Daughters of Atlas. Played by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and an as yet unseen Rachel Zegler, at least two of them aren't too happy that "children stole the power of the gods", including that of their father. So naturally they will try and steal it back. But despite all this angst and trouble, Fury of the Gods looks to be as fun and zany as the first movie.

Which brings us to Marvel, who had rather a lot more to reveal...

Phases 4-6 will now be known as "The Multiverse Saga"

First up was a new trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Streaming on Disney+ from 17th August, Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslanay), cousin of Bruce Banner, must learn what it takes to be a Hulk at the same time as becoming the first lawyer to specialise in representing superhumans.

One of her first clients is Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), who apart from a brief appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hasn't been seen since Phase 1's The Incredible Hulk. Naturally calamity ensues as Walters tries to hold her life together whilst also dealing with some rather powerful people - including Jameela Jamil's Titania. At some point Wong (Benedict Wong) shows up, which means this may tie in with the end of Shang-Chi. And was that the alter ego of another "really good lawyer" seen at the end of the trailer?

With the absence of a Ruffalo/Hulk movie it's good to see that at least one of the green giants is getting a solo outing. It's also good to see Banner having some fun with his life as he tries to teach his cousin about what it's like being green, which quickly turns itself into a hilarious competition. He's even borrowed a few of Tony Stark's old tricks, one of which kicks the trailer off with a bang!

It's also worth noting that A-Force was mentioned during the She-Hulk panel.

The final trailer to be revealed proved to be both an exciting and sombre affair. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will see the previously secretive African nation try to move on after the passing of their young king. With what looks to be glimpses of T'Challa's funeral, the trailer proves to be a fitting tribute to Chadwick Boseman, as vibrant dancers celebrate their king's life. All the while Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) - who gives a powerful speech - and her daughter Shuri (Letitia Wright) try to hold their nation together. A task made rather difficult by the emergence of Namor (Tenoch Huerta - who was seen to be both grateful and emotional about having won the role), and a war between Atlantis and Wakanda.

Being the first trailer there's not a lot to be garnered about the plot, only that the powerful imagery indicates a rather large struggle, and of course, the return of some old friends. Watch out for Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams (who will also be starring in the upcoming Ironheart), she is known for her skills in building armour. Namor and the Atlanteans are only briefly glimpsed, but they do look good - a shot of them riding whales is quite something. Huerta himself described Namor as "amazing". There's also a hint at a new Black Panther, but it is unclear who it is, only that they are likely female. I'm guessing the likely candidates are either Shuri or Nakia (Lupitat Nyong'o), either of whom would be excellent in this new role.

Despite rumours of a troubled shoot, I have high hopes for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which arrives in UK cinemas on 11th November. The trailer looks amazing, and Ryan Coogler has proven himself a talented director. I hope that he is able to build on the success of the first movie as he takes us deeper into this country's heritage... as well as the ocean. But most of all, I hope it's the tribute that Chadwick Boseman deserves.

Kevin Feige laid out Marvel's plans for the MCU over the course of the next two years (or at least a large portion of). Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will close out Phase 4 at the end of this year. After which, Phase 5 will kick off in 2023.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantamania - 17/02/23

As well as exploring the Quantum Realm, "which is not always what you think it is", Quantumania will see the first appearance of Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror after 'He Who Remained' was dispatched by Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) in season 1 of Loki. According to Majors; "there will be conquering". Director Peyton Reed also confirmed the appearance of MODOCK in the footage shown to those in Hall H.

Secret Invasion - Spring 2023

Not a lot is known about this upcoming miniseries, other than it boasts an impressive cast; Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Coleman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, Carmen Ejogo and Martin Freeman.

Smulders briefly appeared to describe the show as a dark, gritty, political thriller. Mentioning the presence of the Skrulls, she said that the show becomes a "guessing game", and if it’s anything like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Secret Invasion will be something else!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - 05/05/2023

James Gunn and a few of the Guardians appeared to introduce the latest outing for this band of intergalactic misfits. While Chukwudi Iwuji (Peacemaker) made quite an entrance as the High Evolutionary.

Apparently, while Starlord (Chris Pratt) deals with his pain over the loss of Gamora (Zoe Saldana), as well as the presence of Gamora - sounds troubling! - the Guardians will come across Adam Warlock (a rather buff looking Will Poulter) and Cosmo the Spacedog (Maria Bakalova). But more interestingly, Gunn talked about exploring Rocket's origins - this will be fun!

Gunn also pointed out that while Vol. 3 marked the end of his journey with the Guardians, it didn't necessarily mean this was the end of their story.

Echo - Summer 2023

This is the spin-off from Hawkeye featuring Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, and is currently shooting.

Loki Season 2 - Summer 2023

I can't wait to find out what has happened to the God of Mischief after the events of season 1!

The Marvels - 28/07/2023

The team up of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) is currently in production. Samuel L. Jackson is also said to appear.

Blade - 03/11/2023

Mahershala Ali takes on the role of the titular vampire hunter. We’ve already heard him speak at the end of The Eternals, but who will he be hunting? And will Dane Whitman (Kit Harrington) be helping him out? More importantly, I wonder who Delroy Lindo will be playing. Could it be Whistler?

Ironheart - Fall 2023

After appearing in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) will create the most advanced suit of armour since Iron Man.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos - Winter 2023/24

Who doesn't want to see more of Kathryn Hahn's troublesome witch? Will she be able to escape Wanda's spell? Or will we see more of her life before West View? Either way, this should be fun.

Daredevil: Born Again - Spring 2024

Over the course of 18 episodes Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio will reprise their roles as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. After a very successful run on Netflix and seeing them both briefly appear in the MCU, I can't wait to see Daredevil and the Kingpin come to blows again!

Captain America: New World Order - 03/05/2024

Anthony Mackie leads his first movie as the new Captain America. This will be directed by Julius Onah and penned by Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman. The only question is will his pal Bucky (Sebastian Stan) tag along for another adventure?

Thunderbolts - 26/07/2024

Not a lot is known about Thunderbolts other than it will close out Phase 5.

Fantastic Four - 08/11/2024

The fantastic foursome will open Phase 6. But who will Marvel get to play them? We’ve already seen one member, kind of, and he was played by a fan favourite actor. Will he be back? We can only hope so… even if they say he won’t be.

The rest of Phase 6 remains a mystery, apart from how it will end, that is. Hopefully there will be a certain group of mutants in there somewhere. What we do know is that 2025 will see the arrival of an epic double bill, and a certain team back in action - although it may look very different to how we remember.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty - 02/05/2025

Avengers: Secret Wars - 07/11/2025

That is quite the line-up! Marvel fans have an exciting few years ahead. And it’s not just Marvel fans. Between John Wick 4, the Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones spin-offs, and everything DC and Marvel are working on, some exciting stuff came out of SDCC’s Hall H this year.

The Suicide Squad | Average Guy Movie Review

A new batch of convicts - as well as a few originals - are under the thumb of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), who's once again offering years off their prison sentences in return for completing a few jobs for Uncle Sam. This time she's sending them to the island nation of Corto Maltese. There they must infiltrate the capital and destroy a top secret research facility. Sounds easy enough. Task Force X is back, and with James Gunn at the helm things are madder than ever! The Guardians of the Galaxy  director has taken what David Ayer started and blown the roof off of it. But he has done so in a way that is respectful of what has gone before. Fans of the original (of which there are apparently few) will have no trouble going from  Suicide Squad  to The Suicide Squad . And yet, the new movie stands quite happily on it's own two feet. Rather than making them drastically different, the returning characters simply feel like they have grown a bit. Well, maybe not grown, but adapted, t

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings | Average Guy Movie Review

For ten years Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) - the son of The Mandarin (Tony Leung), keeper of the Ten Rings - has been running from his past, trying to escape the life his father intended for him. Unfortunately that past has now caught up with him, endangering the lives of those he cares about. Now he must return home, face his father and learn the secrets of his family. If there's one thing that Marvel is good at, it's taking lesser known comic book characters and turning them into major players. Clearly they haven't lost their touch because Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings  is everything fans love about the MCU and so much more. Whilst keeping things very much rooted in this world, Destin Daniel Cretton has carved out a new piece of the epic film franchise - one steeped in asian culture and mythology - to bring us Marvel's first Asian superhero.  It seems insane to think that just a few years ago Simu Liu tweeted Marvel about Shang-Chi, and now he's playing the ne

Operation Market Garden Anniversary 2016

The John Frost Bridge at Arnhem (from my visit in 2013) 72 years ago today, Allied troops set off on what could be one of the boldest missions of World War 2, Operation Market Garden. Developed by Field Marshall Montgomery, the plan was to advance into Nazi occupied Holland and develop a bridgehead over the River Rhine into Germany. There were two parts to the operation: Market (Airborne) Garden (Ground Forces) In what was the largest airborne operation of the war, paratroopers and glider troops had the job of securing bridges at Eindhoven (US 101st Airborne), Nijmegen (US 82nd Airborne) and Arnhem (British 1st Airborne). The ground forces, made up of the British XXX Corp had to advance up a single highway through Holland, linking up with the airborne forces as they went. In honour of the anniversary of Operation Market Garden we look back at some of the movies and TV Shows that tell the story of the Allies ill-fated attempt to end the war by Christmas 1944.
