Godzilla vs. Kong | Moustache Trailer Reaction

The first trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong has quite literally crashed on to our screens, and it promises all the destruction you'd expect of a global fight between titans. If you haven't seen the trailer, or just want to watch it again, you can check it out below.

Adam Wingard (The Guest, Blair Witch) leads the charge in the latest entry in the 'MonsterVerse', which sees two of the behemoths go head to head. We haven't seen Kong since 1973, and now it seems that Monarch need him for some unknown reason, one that undoubtedly involves global destruction if they fail. We know it has something to do with Kong's "true home", and a war that wiped out most of the titans. What that means for all of the titans seen bowing to Godzilla at the end of King of the Monsters is anybody's guess, at this point. But Godzilla's all pissed off for some reason, and is determined to get in the way of Kong's journey of discovery. Hence why every time the two titans meet, they're knocking seven bells out of each other. Why do I get the feeling that an unseen Alan Jonah (Charles Dance) and/or his band of eco-terrorists are behind this? And was that Mechagodzilla towering over the people running in the opening seconds of the trailer?

All of the action looks to be beautifully extreme - thanks to some brilliant CGI - as everything within reach is smashed, trampled and ripped apart. Even an aircraft carrier proves a worthy fighting platform, although not for very long (hopefully Kong can swim). Thankfully it would seem that Wingard took inspiration more from 'King of the Monsters' which brimmed with massive fights between titans, rather than the first Godzilla movie in which the main man took forever to show up and had way too small a role. It's impressive to think that this is the fourth movie in this series and the idea of massive creatures destroying everything in their path isn't getting a little stale. Not that this looks like it will out do what has gone before, it's just a little different. Where they go from here... who knows?

But this isn't just about the big monsters. Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler and Ziyi Zhang return to their roles from 'King of the Monsters'. Chandler (and assumedly Zhang) is still with Monarch, monitoring the titans. Brown's 'Madison Russell' is once again on the road, of her own accord it seems. This time she has teamed up with Julian Dennison and Brian Tyree Henry, apparently she's trying to figure out which of the two titular characters she's going to back, but it looks more like she's investigating what's causing Godzilla to go nuts. At the same time we have several newcomers; Alexander Skarsgård is the scientist promoting Kong as the answer to all our prayers, and he's got a secret weapon in the form of 'Jia' (Kaylee Hottle), an orphan child who has the ability to communicate with Kong - cue shot of hand touching giant finger - and poor Rebecca Hall is along for the ride as Jia's adoptive parent.

It sounds like Adam Wingard wants Godzilla vs. Kong to be more than just a big monster fight movie - although it definitely looks like he's nailed that part. No he wants his audience invested in these characters, and not just the humans; "If I had my way, I want people to really be teary-eyed at the end of this movie, and that invested in what's going on." Given that there's talk of an ending with one clear winner, Wingard may just get his wish - depending on who wins, of course - although it may come more in the form of a big social media response rather than teary-eyes.

I'm sure with these incredible visuals and some gargantuan fight scenes, Godzilla vs. Kong will look fantastic on the big screen. But in this current climate, many of us are more likely to see it at home, and after a year of movie delays, I'm just glad we finally get to see one!

Godzilla vs. Kong hits cinemas and digital on 26th March in the UK.

The Suicide Squad | Average Guy Movie Review

A new batch of convicts - as well as a few originals - are under the thumb of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), who's once again offering years off their prison sentences in return for completing a few jobs for Uncle Sam. This time she's sending them to the island nation of Corto Maltese. There they must infiltrate the capital and destroy a top secret research facility. Sounds easy enough. Task Force X is back, and with James Gunn at the helm things are madder than ever! The Guardians of the Galaxy  director has taken what David Ayer started and blown the roof off of it. But he has done so in a way that is respectful of what has gone before. Fans of the original (of which there are apparently few) will have no trouble going from  Suicide Squad  to The Suicide Squad . And yet, the new movie stands quite happily on it's own two feet. Rather than making them drastically different, the returning characters simply feel like they have grown a bit. Well, maybe not grown, but adapted, t

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings | Average Guy Movie Review

For ten years Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) - the son of The Mandarin (Tony Leung), keeper of the Ten Rings - has been running from his past, trying to escape the life his father intended for him. Unfortunately that past has now caught up with him, endangering the lives of those he cares about. Now he must return home, face his father and learn the secrets of his family. If there's one thing that Marvel is good at, it's taking lesser known comic book characters and turning them into major players. Clearly they haven't lost their touch because Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings  is everything fans love about the MCU and so much more. Whilst keeping things very much rooted in this world, Destin Daniel Cretton has carved out a new piece of the epic film franchise - one steeped in asian culture and mythology - to bring us Marvel's first Asian superhero.  It seems insane to think that just a few years ago Simu Liu tweeted Marvel about Shang-Chi, and now he's playing the ne

Operation Market Garden Anniversary 2016

The John Frost Bridge at Arnhem (from my visit in 2013) 72 years ago today, Allied troops set off on what could be one of the boldest missions of World War 2, Operation Market Garden. Developed by Field Marshall Montgomery, the plan was to advance into Nazi occupied Holland and develop a bridgehead over the River Rhine into Germany. There were two parts to the operation: Market (Airborne) Garden (Ground Forces) In what was the largest airborne operation of the war, paratroopers and glider troops had the job of securing bridges at Eindhoven (US 101st Airborne), Nijmegen (US 82nd Airborne) and Arnhem (British 1st Airborne). The ground forces, made up of the British XXX Corp had to advance up a single highway through Holland, linking up with the airborne forces as they went. In honour of the anniversary of Operation Market Garden we look back at some of the movies and TV Shows that tell the story of the Allies ill-fated attempt to end the war by Christmas 1944.
