Going in Style: Average Guy Movie Review

Every now and then, it's nice to sit down and watch a light-hearted movie that isn't going to challenge you. Going in Style is one of those movies, three great actors having a bit of fun. When three old friends; Joe (Michael Caine), Willie (Morgan Freeman) and Albert (Alan Arkin) discover the company they spent decades working for is moving overseas and their pensions are to be dissolved, they face losing everything they've worked for. In order to prevent this from happening, they decide to take matters into their own hands by robbing the bank that's handling the company's transition.

Directed by Zach Braff, Going in Style is a remake of the 1979 movie of the same name. It's fair to say this isn't going to win any awards, but does that really matter? In this day and age, the situation the three leads find themselves in is very relatable for far too many people! Now I'm not saying that you should rob a bank when facing financial trouble and neither is the movie, this isn't a how to manual. But it is a fun, ridiculous underdog story in which the little guys decide it's their turn to have their cake and eat it.

Caine, Freeman and Arkin deliver performances that not only make you laugh, they make you care about their characters. You want these guys to succeed. It may be ridiculous to think of your granddad robbing a bank with his mates, but in a world where Fast and Furious movies make billions of dollars, is it really that ridiculous?

I don't usually write spoiler filled reviews because I don't see the point. But considering my not so positive review of Jason Bourne, one of the most highly anticipated movies of Summer 2016, I thought it might be worth trying to explain why I reached the verdict I did. 4DX – Is it worth it or just a gimmick?

Having watched the promo video what do you think? This week I saw Ghostbusters in 4DX and it definitely made the movie more of a ride. In fact 4DX feels like it was designed to appeal to the roller coaster crowd but will you miss the experience when watching the same movies at home? When I saw Ghostbusters for the second time I decided to view it in 4DX because I wanted to know what the "environmental effects" did for the movie going experience.
