According to Entertainment Weekly, there's a live action Judge Dredd TV show in the works. The unstoppable lawman who polices the sprawling urban chaos that is Mega-City One was created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra back in 1977 for 2000 AD. Dredd has been portrayed in movies by Sylvester Stallone and Karl Urban. Urban's 'Dredd' came out in 2012 and although not a box office hit, it has developed quite a cult following.
IM Global Television president Mark Stern (Battlestar Glactica), IM Global Television CEO Stuart Ford, and Jason and Chris Kingsley who own UK game developer, Rebellion will act as executive producers on the show. Ford and the Kingsleys were executive producers on 'Dredd'.
There have been talks of a sequel to 'Dredd' for quite some time, but it has never gone beyond that. As a fan of the movie, Urban's performance and the world they created, this is something that disappointed me. The show - currently titled Judge Dredd: Mega-City One - is not meant to be a direct follow up to the 2012 movie and is said to follow a team of Judges. At this early stage there are no details regarding casting. But considering Urban has already shown interest in reprising the role and the executive producers of 'Dredd' are involved, wouldn't it be great to see Urban return to Mega-City One?
Who would you like to see play Judge Dredd in this live action reboot? Do you want to see Karl Urban return or would you like to see something more reminiscent of Sylvester Stallone's portrayal? Let us know by leaving a comment below or find us on Facebook and Twitter.
